Burmester Sound Adjustment Tip
Just a tip that i realized. I always felt the Burmester system in the car didn't sound too great. I mainly use my iPod for listening to music. I realized that my iPod equalizer was set to "loudness" or sometimes "hip hop" once I turned the EQ off the sound finally started sounding like what I would have expected out of this system.

Go to Radio, then pull the wheel down or swipe down. The bottom line should have a Sound selection over on the right side that you highlight. All the adjustments are in that sub menu, including the somewhat limited equalizer settings and Surround.

Are you taking a digital or analogue signal out of the iPod? The built-in DA converters in iPods suck.

I don't own an iPod because I can't abide mp3 sound. There has always been some debate as to how to extract the digital stream from iPods to an external DAC. It's certainly possible.
And yes I know an iPod can play FLAC files.

I've noticed that with my iPhone 6, the sound is superior plugged in to the usb cable vs Bluetooth. I got a 0.5m cable from the Apple Store which is a much more usable length than the cable provided. I would also recommend if using streaming apps, sign up for pandora plus and change your audio streaming bit rate. The same for spotify, if you have the bandwidth, stream at 320kbps or save music offline at that quality.
You may not be able to tell a big difference on bitrates, but I can definitely tell a big difference using the cable over Bluetooth.

I suspect that the USB cable is bypassing the crap DAC's in the iPhone.
True original audio quality for CD is LPCM 44100 Hz 16 bits stereo for a bitrate of 1411 kbps. All mp3's even at higher bit rates sound poor. You are simply throwing away too much data.
