I'll be dumping mine too. Just have to wait until late summer. Mine will be going back to the shop on Monday. I've lost about 25% of horsepower. I did a rough estimate and my 0-60 time is close to 10 seconds, with the engine hesitating.

Yeah, something's not right then. Since my rebuild I've lost no noticeable power (it might even feel a bit stronger), but my MPG has taken a hit! I'm down about 4-5 MPG for the first 3 tanks so far.

Just got mine back from dealer after engine rebuild. So far so good. No clicking noise on startup and mpg unaffected.

What to check ...

After 3 weeks later, dealer updated me that parts arrived and engine was lifted from my car. It would take 2-3 more days to fix and test the car. What should I check when I get my car in this case ? Is it really a safe "FIX" that does not affect vehicle performance ?

This one depends primarily on the mechanics skill.

You weren't the only one, but I probably came late to the party. There were probably others. I think there is really something wrong with that guy.

Question for the group, opinions sought.

The engine repair does indeed show up on CarFax. I'm looking at a very nice CPO 2015 C300 Sport 4Matic, 5500 miles. At 5236 miles, the carfax shows the following:

Maintenance inspection completed
Engine removed to complete repair
Electrical system checked
Engine/powertrain computer/module checked

I spoke to the SA who reported they performed the service bulletin work, pulled the engine, replaced the pistons, seals, and some of the electrical system.

The car is pretty loaded, $54k MSRP, I'm at a bottom line negotiated price I think is very attractive (just under $40k). The car drives very well, is quiet, and has the Mercedes CPO standing behind it. My plans are to keep the car a year, but possibly longer.

If you were me, what would you do? Buy the car or run away?

As long as the "dirty" CarFax results in a fair discount, go for it. And buy the extra two years of CPO when you do. It's transferable to a subsequent owner if you want to sell the car before CPO expires, which might be helpful given the history. And if for some reason you trade the car with CPO remaining, the unused portion is refundable to you.

The CPO warranty gives you 12 months of coverage once the original 4/48 warranty expires. Taking it to 24 months will be around $2200, and 48 will be around $4500. CPO is a great program (I've had three CPO S Class and it's a must...the last repair ticket on my S was $6,000 and I paid zero.)

You might want to just ask for the full three year CPO at no charge as the sweetener on the deal vs a straight up discount.

Good advice. In-service date was 3/31/15, so there's 4 years left on the CPO warranty. I doubt I'll keep the car that long, but never say never. I was considering getting a new C450 but the uncertainty of another C400/450 orphan piqued my interest in the CPO C300 as a 'gap" car until Mercedes releases specs on the C43 sedan.

Sounds like there's three years left of the original 4 year factory warranty plus one year of CPO when that first warranty expires. CPO is a limited extended warranty whereas the original is bumper to bumper, so that's good. If you're planning on keeping the car a year or so I wouldn't buy any extra CPO. Two or three, I would.

I would not pay near 40k for that car. You can get pretty close to a discount like that on a new c300. I would rather pay 46000k for a new one (15% off) than get into a MY15. Or just do a 24 month lease and wait for the c43. Just my 2c as a 2015 owner with a lot of the early issues including a rebuilt engine.

I couldn't touch a 2016 similarly equipped C300 for anywhere close to that. The dealer has a similar one new that stickers for close to $56k, and a 15% discount sounds unrealistic to me. I'm not fond of leasing because I hate being locked into a car for any set period of time, and because I'm in a net sales tax state I'd lose the benefit of the netting out my trade car value against the purchase price and wind up paying a lot more in sales tax when I purchase a vehicle later.

No, not yet. But I don't see how the numbers will work out favorably to me moving to a new 2016. That's one reason you're keeping your car vs dumping it following your engine rebuild. I assume you're gambling on no future issues as well.

Would any W205 C300 manufactured after the date April 2015 have problems like this?

Thanks guys, just trying to know what mfd date to look for when I go to the dealer.

All the bulletins I've seen on this site or on the web regarding this subject of incorrect sized engine wrist pins state vehicles built before April 22nd 2015 are affected. There's a couple threads on this site that speak about this.

On the driver's B pillar it will state the manufacturing date...look for "5/15" or later.

I agree with Matt I would not pay that much. I too have a 2015 that had to have the engine rebuilt. Since the rebuild my engine runs fine but my gas mileage is down 3-5 MPG. I'm contemplating trading mine in but at this point I fear I'm too upside down to logically do so - and now that I hear the repair does show up on carfax, I can only wonder how much further upside down I am. Anyways, I got mine last year for about 15% off (MSRP was 47,XXX and purchase price was 40,XXX), and mine is optioned perfectly for me - Sport package, P2, Pano, Rear view Camera etc. So my advice to you would be buy a 2016. If you can't afford one that MSRP's at 54,000 look for one with a few less options. I would definitely avoid a 2015 that has had the engine rebuild. Just my $.2
