new C300 with Engine noise
The bulletin says "Engine 274.920 (LS) Modified wrist pins are installed as of engines: 274 920 E0 043259 (as of about April 20, 2015) and 274 920 30 406602 (as of about March 27, 2015)"
The engine info from the vin dump says 274920 E0 054561. Since my engine number is higher than 043259, does it mean no wrist pin issue?
The delivery date was : 07/02/2015
Are these engine numbers sequential?
I also had my MB service guy do a check and I will have it thoroughly inspected after purchase. My cost will be only $20k after trade-in.
I noticed this "rattling" sound when I drove my first w205 (2015 C300) loaner. Thought it was something out of the ordinary, until I drove another loaner (which made the same noise during a cold start). THEN, I actually leased one with 0 miles, and it too does the same exact thing.
Problem is - you need to simply drive your car smoothly (not roughly) until it has reached its optimal temperature. This noise only happens during the warm-up of the car. Also (on that note), i would not recommend letting it idle during a cold start. You're supposed to immediately shift it in Drive and accelerate slowly until it has reached its optimal temp (but I guess that would be for another forum page)!
As far as the noise - it doesn't sound too attractive, but it was definitely engineered this way; and, there is absolutely nothing wrong with your car.
Those who actually had their cars "repaired" for this "problem" really need to just let the engine warm up and stop worrying about how an engine sounds when it's cold because it really just goes away after a few minutes.

The engines are noisy, very much so. But as long as the insulations in place are preventing you from hearing anything in the car, it's normal.
It really sucks that the previous owner never addressed this issue, and it start to develop problems after the warranty has expired. Is this part only covered by the standard 4 year/50,000 miles warranty, or are there special terms associated with it since it's a manufacturer defect? I'd imagine repair cost out of pocket will be prohibitively high (>$7000?).
After all these years are there any definitive answers to the question of whether unrepaired wrist pin noise will damage engine cylinders? I'm also reluctant about repairing it since I don't have much confidence in my local MB dealer in the first place, people's bad experience of botched repairs further concern me.
The car has 42,000 miles on it, and Carfax shows all of its services were done at MB dealers, during purchase I had the car inspected at my local MB dealer and they didn't note wrist pin issue.
My clatter sound doesn't just happen when the engine is cold, but coming off freeway and slowing down I can notice that too, that's the difference between my sound and what people are describing here....
Just bought a 2015 c300 form a third party. Doesn't have the warranty anymore. expired in November. I initially didn't hear a sound, But I noticed it today cold start but went away. What is the consensus, did all the pre-April 2015 c300 have the issue or only some. And what will happen if I continue and cant get it fixed ?

it was $20.
