Sounds like your mbrace subscription is not active. Simply activate it using the phone button on your car and setting it up with the representative. Takes a few minutes.
Yes the button sticks out since its a proxy key, you can pop it out and use your normal key if something goes wrong with the keyless system. MB does this primarily as a cost measure since all mercs, from the cheapest to the most expensive, use the same smart key ignition. The easiest way to envision the button is to consider it a wireless "dongle".

On a relevant note, and more for 400 owners who might be considering the 450:

I recently drove a C450 and I came away with some impressions:
The seats are REALLY nice.
The red seat belts? Not a fan.
The red stitching, I like it a lot.
The AMG options in car settings, AMG suspension, etc, all very cool
The rev on startup is.. not sure how I feel honestly.. it's not quite as loud as the GLE 450, but still makes enough noise to let bystanders know that your car isn't a C300.
The exhaust was actually a bit annoying after having driven the C400 which is almost silent. First surprise, I thought I'd want it. Not so much now.
The power C450 vs C400. Honestly, couldn't tell the difference on the 'butt dyno'. It might be quicker, but after I drove it very quickly, I jumped back in my C400 and really had no way to gauge the speed difference.
The look... Well, in pictures, I REALLY liked the grill. In person, not so much, and honestly, the night package ended up in the same category of 'meh'. Which really surprised me.
All in all, if you've got a C400, and really feel like you've made a mistake by not waiting for the C450 (like I thought I had), I encourage you to check one out if you can. I wasn't impressed enough by the difference to even warrant a conversation about moving from the C400 to the 450.
If you're a C450 buyer, you're going to be very happy. The car is fantastic. The C400 was already a great ride, and now the C450 is even better. Except the wind noise. Still present.

I'm just very surprised of the execution of this for an MB. My B8 Audi and Jeep Grand Cherokee both have push button starts where you can remove the button to access the normal key if you need to. But in both cases when you re-insert the button it presses in flush against the dash for a clean look. The MB button looks tacky aesthetically against the rest of the finely engineered interior.

I guess that's subjective. I personally don't think it looks tacky in the least. It looks like a button which is supposed to be pushed.

Personally I think it matches the retrochic of the interior elements like the ac control levers and the round vents.

Very intelligent observations. My dealer doesnt have one but it does have a GLE 450. Personally I found the exhaust note on it obnoxious. BTW it seems its piped into the interior even after reaching idle. Its a constant companion on your trip. I sure hope the C450 is much more subtle. I also don't like the tone its not the boss v8 rumble nor the super annoying 4cyl staccato "metrosexual?"

Did anyone buy the 3 year prepaid maintenance plan? I was thinking to buy this to cover any brake jobs that were to be done.

I wouldn't worry about brakes on a German car, unless you plan to track your car. I just sold my 2009 E90 335i, after 6 years and 60,000 miles, and it still had the original discs and rotors, and they were still fine.

I did. Its a 30% discount. Its only for maintenance items. Anything else is warranty coverage.

I buy it as well. Like you said, it's for scheduled maintenance, but it does guarantee that as service rates rise, you're protected from those increases.

I sell these cars, and the only thing I add on to my lease is PPM (prepaid maintenance) .

comparing a 09 335i to this car is different. I had e92 09 335. I also went through two brake PAD jobs in 72,000 miles. Either you did all highway driving, or your driving is more tame than mine. You also said discs and rotors; I didn't have to change those out. I had to change the pads.

not sure. I read somewhere that 3 year was the way to go> I don't close until Christmas so I can decide then.

Also, I'm going to assume brake pad replacement does not fall under maintenance?

Question: Did anyone purchase the Carbon Fiber rear spoiler option? Is it the same as the body colored spoiler but in a different material? If you have it on your car, then can you post a picture showing the rear of the car from eye level? I'd like to see how it sits.

Thanks,

I really wanna do something on the back of my car. I don't want it to look excessive but I want it to be different, by the way the new coupes are so badass that are coming out, they look like the S coupe. I just don't find the 2 door thing practical but I love the design!

Pro & Con about replacing runflats

I see there is some discussion about the merits of replacing the runflats on the C450.I think runflats are only a marginal advantage over non runflats for the following reasons.
1-If you damage the wheel & tire you can't drive for help
2-If you have a rapid leak(deflate in 1 hour)and have a portable compressor in the trunk(I do)you have time to drive for help
3-If you have a slow leak(1 day or more delfation) you have plenty of time to get it repaired.
The only advantage I see is if you have a blowout and do not damage the wheel you can drive on the runflat for help.

I will give my financial reasons why runflats are not a good deal in a later post.

Personal preference, but not a fan myself. On just about all the other colors, it's a win, but to me, not on the white. That's me though, if you like it, go for it.
