C450 AMG Sport discussion only.

Having driven the C450 this past weekend, I think you've given an honest assessment. I passed on the C400 to wait for the C450, but I think the C400 may have been the better fit for me. My impressions:
- I prefer the diamond grill on the C450. (advantage C450)
- I felt that the comfort setting on the C450 lacked the instantaneous acceleration that I'm looking for and the sport+ setting engine growl and exhaust bark is not my cup of tea. The sport setting was my favorite setting, but the engine/exhaust (or the sound pumped into the cabin to simulate it) was still too loud for my tastes (advantage C400)
- I did not appreciate any extra power that may have been available as I felt the C400 had plenty (no advantage for my driving style)
- I could not tell any appreciable difference in suspension, but that's not to say there isn't any. I'd have to drive the C400 again (incomplete)
- Confirmed no cooling and ventilation available as on the C400 (advantage to C450) and I'm peaved that you can get ventilation on the C300, but not the C450!!
- Wheel options for C450 are still a far cry from what's available for the C63 and that's very disappointing (no advantage to either)
I drove a C300 to see if I might want to fall back to that model and the answer is "no". One big difference that I noticed between the C300 and the C450 was the braking. I can't recall how the C400 braked, but the C450 braked much better than the C300. Can anyone comment on the braking comparison between the C450 and C400, as I can't recall how the C400 braked?
I've also asked the MB salesperson to inquire about the ability to defeat the pumping of the engine/exhaust noise into the cabin. Has anyone been given any indication on whether this is doable?
If the cabin can be quieted in sport and sport +, then that my tilt things back to the C450 - and make the other compromises acceptable.

It appears that there are various ways to enhance the sound inside and outside the cabin.....

If anyone has any knowledge regarding how MB has done this for the C450 and/or what one might do to defeat it, then please pass it along. Just knowing what I'm up against would be a good first step.
If there wasn't a lot to like about the car, then I would have simply moved on. The fact is, there is a lot to like, but this is a huge issue for me.

Finally got my car in today must say this thing is amazing. Was a little surprised there was no sunroof in it. Both my 09 c300 and 13 c350 both had them standard did not know this years model it's either pano or nothing at all or so the dealership told me. Can anyone else confirm.

I don't know if they have the black leather with white stitching (rather than red) in the US, but it's what I have up here in the Great White North and I love it. IMO I am looking for a luxury car with sports features in terms of overall vibe, and the white stitching makes the entire black interior look super classy where the red stitching is a bit too racy for my tastes and doesn't pop as much.
having said that, the interior is awesome with pretty much any material, stitch colour trim, so whatever speaks to you is the way to go.

If you are not purchasing new rims but tires only, then you can def use the existing tmps on your stock rims. If you are obtaining the whole package (tires and rims), then yes, you'll need a set of tmps, otherwise you'll have error notifications on the dash. However, see if you can use the tmps from your stock rims on the new winter set you're getting. It could very well fit and work. Has for me in the past. tmps is just a small boxy item near the valve. I dont see a reason why you cant simply put in the new rims. Good luck dude.

Good decision based on my year of driving my C400 with the standard wheels and tires (same Continentals that are std. on my C450). Despite many encounters with our hideous Midwestern potholes, I never suffered any tire or wheel damage in 6000 miles. Even though I'm not a fan of runflats, I think their structural design makes them somewhat more pothole damage-resistant. I declined the tire/wheel insurance on my C450 and received a pro-rated refund on the t/w insurance on my traded-in C400.

cool. He can still use the tmps on the winter set up. It wont get broken or damaged. Once done with winter, simply put them back on the summer set up. Why spend 2 bills for another set of tmps?

The whole point of getting a second set of wheels would be to avoid remounting the tires; otherwise, you could eliminate the wheel purchase all together and just get winter tires and mount them on the current wheels.
#1584
correct. If, he's getting the tires mounted on the rims, then absolutely he needs the tmps on order. Folks would get winter set up to avoid ruining the summer set up. OP could save some money on tmps if he swaps it. But then he'll spend money on mounting them twice a year. Around here, mounting is cheap, i can get 4 tires mounted for apprx. 20-40 bucks. If its a lease, it makes more sense. If he purchased the car, then yea, def get the tmps with the winter set up. Plus, who wouldnt want the security of tmps?

Tpms
Not sure how it works with Benz because don't have car yet. But on my BMW if anything was wrong with the Tpms as in not screwed in correctly or missing the tire light was on. Tpms rebuild at discount tire is only $13 each or so. They are pretty cheap. No reason not to get them

Biting the Bullet: DYNO Session
Next Tuesday morning I am taking my car to a notoriously low Mustang Dyno. I am curious to see what these things put down bone stock.. .
Also, I plan on getting a tune sooner than later so I will be able to upload a follow up graph of the tune verse stock so any vendors that want to show their product off, please message me.
Cheers

Dear friends,
I'm surprised that so many of you already picked up your cars, but there aren't very many posted photos! I'D LOVE TO SEE PHOTOS!
PS. If anyone has a combo of Polar White and Night Package, please post your photos! I'm very interested to see how it looks in real life as opposed to the "konfigurator".
Thank you!

Willywonka, are you sure this car is stock? That seems awfully high, and what fuel were the using? I am assuming that meter showing acceleration is correct, 4.9s to 60? I believe that 380 whp is after a tune...anyways your two cents would be appreciated
I guestimated this car weighs around 4000 lbs and traps 107-108 which to me equates to roughly ~320 whp stock...Yes the dyno is AWD.
Vipershade, 650 miles on the clock roughly 200 more by dyno time...900 miles on a motor should be good. Do you not think so?

I would think that would get you in the right ballpark.

That 4.5 sec 0-60 is probably achievable in stock form.I don't remember which magazine reported the C400 time for 0-60 at 4.7 sec(either Moto Trend or Car & Driver). It is not unreasonable with 33 more Hp in the C450 to expect a .2 or .3 sec improvement in time.Mercedes published figures are always understated. They do not convert the 0-100 km time(about 62 mph)to our 0-60 time. Also they do not use a 12" rollout as is used by all US magazines in order to simulate drag strip timeing. These 2 differences are worth .4 to .5 sec lower times than Mercedes figures.

I dont know if mercedes understates it but on my bmw m235i the stock was 320 hp to the crank and it got 330 whp..it was really understated.
Another thing is maybe the "DTM" edition had some strange overboost feature. I've never even heard of the DTM edition until I saw that post.
And as you know it doesn't really matter what the baseline is per se. It only matters what the delta is between tuned and stock.

Yesterday we conducted a complex testing of Mercedes C450 AMG brought by [some guy].
First, we measured HP and torque on our Superflow dyno. The manufacturer declares 367 hp and 520 Nm. This particular car showed 380 hp and 510 Nm and 320/450 at the wheels. Then we measured dynamics with Racelogic. After several drives we were able to steadily confirm the official 4.9 secs 0-100 km/h. From 100 to 200 this beauty went in 11.7 secs.

Thanks for replies. I was reading super flow reads 10-12% higher than a dyno jet which is 8% higher than mustang. So will be interesting to see what mustang shows at stock vs the tunes Poster will be trying out.

This dyno is known to read very low so don't be upset when I throw up the chart...On a side note, 320whp seems to be about right, again 4000lb, and probably traps around 107-108...
So 380 hp 380 tq sounds about right.
