I checked with MB the official documentation of the C450 and it was clear the AMG wheel takes the same secondary colour as the seats. Normally you should have red stitching and red 12 o clock too.

Also if you do the same config in the website you can see red stitching.

I try to attach a picture.
First, never assume the configurator is correct. The German site configurator uses a performance steering wheel image with red stitching and red 12 o'clock for every interior when selected with the performance wheel. The 12 o'clock has been confirmed as a C63S ONLY feature, and the stitching appears to be the same (as there is no evidence of anyone getting colored stitching on their 450).

I am curious as to the official documentation that you found, here is what the C450 US order guide shows:

Talked to my dealer about this as I'm wanted the same upgrade. They gave me a price of $1140 each for the rear and $1300 each for the front. I have no idea why the fronts would be more expensive considering they are a smaller wheel.

I managed to work the price down to $1040 and $912. They also matched the price I found on TireRack for the all seasons I want installed. Wheels have to be special ordered from Germany. They told me one to two weeks...

I asked again my vendor and i wait for their answer. It may be different here in Europe but not sure yet,

Are you happy with the AMG steering wheel? Does the alcantara surface have a good grip? On pictures the paddles are bigger on this optional wheel. do you confirm?

Paddles are bigger and I think made from a different material.

I agree with OP. in the old days MB were like tanks..the old 280 and 300 series, diesels..280D, 300D, 300E etc. my dad had an 06 S350 that he finally sold last year, and that was more substantial then models this year, but that was 10 years ago.

This is why I'm asking actual owners of this steering wheel about how is the grip on the alcantara part?

New owners

Looking for a new ride and have decided to indulge myself a little this time. After many weeks of research and waiting, I finally got the chance to drive the new C450 and it did not disappoint on the fun to drive scale. Unfortunately the new reliability data for the new c series also came out this fall and stats went from just above average 2013 and basically dropped off a cliff for 2014. I live 350 miles from the nearest MB dealer, so I do not have the luxury of just dropping the car off if there is a minor issue. Those would have to wait for the 2-3 times a year I would be driving to a city with a dealership.
For the new owners, how has the initial fit, finish etc been? Last year there were many complaints re panels misaligned and about the seating I know. On my test drive, when turning the wheel lock to lock for a 3 point turn, there was an obvious squeal from the front end. Anyone else noticed something similar? A6, 335 and GS 350 were all stone silent in the same maneuver. Maybe just an issue with the demo, but again that wouldn't be good. Any and all comments other than "well any car can have issues" would be greatly appreciated.

^^ I would have to say driving over 50 miles to service a car would be annoying. I had to deal with that this year with my former BMW.

No issues at all with my C450 in the first six weeks. I'm delighted with the fit and finish as well as with the performance upgrades over the C400 that I owned for a year. With the C400, I had only one problem, a somewhat bizarre one I thought. While on a trip, during a rainstorm, my windshield wipers crashed together resulting in one wiper blade assembly flying off onto the Interstate. I stopped the car in the breakdown lane and moved the surviving blade assembly to the driver's side. I also lifted the passenger side wiper arm so as not to scratch the windshield. Diagnosis by a dealer's service department revealed that one wiper arm nut had not been properly torqued at the factory.

Despite my good experience with the brand, I would be daunted by being 350 miles from the nearest dealer. In my own case, the dealer is just 10 minutes away and provides great reassurance in case something does need attention.

I did a little research and spoke to a gentleman at Kleeman. Get this, and this may be news to some and nothing to others.

What I gathered from our convo is that the ECU in these cars is specific to the VIN on the car. Additionally, the ECU is "glued" to the circuit board and requires dis-assembly once sent to the Tuner in order to properly write over the ECU. Furthermore, there is a pin in this ECU that is different than convention, and sorry to butcher this, but essentially it is on the backside and not the front side (from what I gathered, where it normally is). That means the ECU needs to be grounded while re-flashing...ALL in ALL the process according to a guy at Kleeman has a 30% chance of failure rate since it is a bit more tedious than other ECUs.

Anyone know of this, that information has made me super hesitant to send it in for a flash. That is, basically it's no problem on our end removing the ECU, the risk and danger all falls on the Tuner as it becomes quite a delicate process once in their hands...YIKES
any update on this? did you send it in?

When the exhaust would kick in it sounded like a piece of paper was hitting against an object hundreds of times a second. The sound was sort of high pitch. At first the salesman claimed it was the MSRP sticker and floor mat cover. We took both of those off the car and the problem was still there. When he held down the rear window manual blind the problem seemed to lesson by a bit. The dealer is in the process of locating and fixing the problem before I commit to buying.

Otherwise, the car was awesome and sounded like a rocket. Exhaust sounded was somewhat loud compared to the C400. Even in eco mode the car wasn't as quiet as I expected.

Does anyone else notice the vibration sounds?

The salesman tried to say the sound was due to paper stuck inside, the car needed breaking in, solar eclipse, etc... After telling him that he's full of it, the mechanic came along for a ride and determined that the sound was coming from the tweeter. Once the turbos kicked in and exhaust hit a certain pitch the buzzing sound occured. This at first happened around 60 MPH, then later moved to 70-80 MPH. It took around 3 hours but once the tweeter was replaced the problem was fixed.

I am curious as to the official documentation that you found, here is what the C450 US order guide shows:

I have the C450 with Cranberry Red Leather and the AMG steering wheel. There's no red stitching on the wheel.

Thanks to all of you who answered about the AMG steering wheel.
I had the confirmation today from MB that the optional wheel is indeed black with black stitching no matter what seats we choose.

I have to decide whether i drop this option or not from my order !

Can you give me your feedback on this wheel, its finish and usability?
Do you find the paddles intrusive when you manipulate the wheel as they are quite big on the AMG one.

Thanks !!

Nope haven't sent the ECU in. Curious to see what results you get, and in case you missed it, the dyno session didn't go well. The shop I took it to was very nice but quite busy. By the time they could have gotten to my car after removing some of the plastic underneath to safely bolt down the car, I had to go. At first they tried to see if there was an easier way but you'll see once you get the car dyno'd, only way to strap it down is to remove the plastic underneath...

annoyed

After having mine on the lift for the tire swap (PICs here), I was wondering about that also.

I chose the regular wheel but people seem to love the AMG one. the perforated leather in the regular sport wheel is what first made me say "I must have this car". IMO it looks much better than the other one.

But like I said, people here love the AMG one.
