C400 with michelin pilot sport

I've always known that the OEM run flat all season tires are comfort oriented, but I had no idea how much they sapped the life out of the chassis till now. The difference is immediately apparent within the first mile of driving. Turn-in is instantaneous, handling sqishiness is obliterated, grip is relentless, feels like an entirely different car! It feels like they were made for the C Class!!! As in Spinal Tap its like someone turned the volume to 11 . Trade off, slightly more tread noise on the highway. Ride quality is completely unaffected, in fact, it may be even better since it completely eliminates harshness over edgy road imperfections such as rail tracks and such. Amazing transformation for a simple tire swap.
Im well aware they will last less than the all seasons, but as a bonus they also cost significantly less than the incredibly expensive run flats. If you want your C class to handle to its potential getting rid of the all season run flats is a must. STRONGLY RECOMMENDED
PS dont forget your seal a flat compressor combo! Maybe Ill get a chance to find out what the top speed of an ungoverned tuned C400 is

I ran Michelin Pilot Super Sports in my tuned Mustang and loved them. I'm just waiting for an excuse to replace the run flats with Michelins again. Glad to hear they work well for you. I assumed they would help quite a bit with the annoying issues over road imperfections.

I've heard Mercedes Roadside will not assist with tire issues when drivers have replaced run flats with normal tires. It might be worth verifying before your next road trip.

I wouldn't be surprised. But there are no such restrictions on non run flat winter tires for example. Like with my snow tires the compressor/ sealant and crossed fingers will have to do. In the last 20 years I have had a single flat anyway despite driving easily at least 400k miles. As you I have used the tires before I have the exact same set on my s2000. My surprise wasn't the tires it was how well matched they were to the car and how they transformed the dynamics, for driving spiritedly its night and day. What was a little dull and reluctant is completely gone!

That's exactly what I had planned even before delivery, the Michelin pilot super sport are excellent tires!

I currently only have 700kms on my c400 and I'm not planning to wait until my runflats wear, I'm swapping tires next summer considering the huge difference these tires make!

That was my original plan but after getting rid of the speed limiter with the Renntech tune I couldn't resist! hoping for a very late winter!

I have 10k on my tuned C400

after 5k.. front tire RF had a giant bubble due to a pot hole.

Ditched all 4 tires and went Mich PSS

I actually went taller

225/45/19

255/40/19

wow.. the car's grip around a bend or freeway on ramp is more than you will need for this type of car. Lowering with springs and better shocks and struts would make this car crazy good.

from a stop.. and brake torquing with EPS OFF is easily a few tenths faster tuned or not.

noise is just about the same or lower in some types of road construction.

comfort.. way better. Much better than RF and fills in the wheel gaps very nicely.

I have 5mm spacers on the back and 3mm in the front. Car looks fuller.

No regrets at all.

3mm and 5mm spacers is exactly what I want to get for my car, did you get any vibrations after installing the spacers?

none.. since they are just ring and rim seats on the hub.

some would say you need longer bolts for the 5mm.. i have run over 6 months no issues or vibrations.

I did the turns my self and inspect the bolts about once a month.. no issues.

I would say if you go 5mm front would be a bit better.. since the 3mm is almost no difference.

no rubbing with taller tires and comfort has improved over rough patches.

Thx topgun32, I'll consider 5mm in the front as well then!

RunFlat tires are the worst thing ever invented. They have to make them handle like crap so that they won't ride like crap. The only people who benefit from runflats are the bean counters who don't have to provide another spare wheel and tire.

Yet they still ride like crap as opposed to a traditional tire.
