Any Way to Disable the C300 Door Chime?

I find the door chime annoying. Every time I open the door - Binggg! I have gone through all the menus, and cannot find a way to disable it. What am I missing? And, what is the point of the door chime anyway? I think I know when I've opened the door, and don't need a chime to tell me.

I thought for a sec I'd found the way to disable it, but then realized I was only disabling the sound of the doors locking. So that's not it. It's the door-opening chime I want to stop from sounding. Or, do I have to go to the dealership and have them do it?

While we're on the subject of disabling sounds, how about the seat belt chime?
Just moved to a place with a 2/10 mile driveway. After checking the mail, there is no need to put my seat belt back on.

I agree...the loud "Ding" door chime when first opening the driver's door is most annoying.

Wish there were a way to disable it...haven't found one yet.

My UK spec car doesn't make a sound when I get in it.

Yes ~ UK spec cars are same as SA spec cars. Chime turned off on entry. It can be turned off with a Star. Might need developer mode activated. Not sure as it is not an issue here.

I am sorry, but I do not know what that means. Is this something my dealership can do - if you could explain those terms, perhaps I can go to my dealership and discuss with them. I cannot understand why the U.S. market would be different for door chimes - makes no sense.

Makes me think that before the car is released for sale in any particular country a committee of wise men from that country go through the spec and decide what is standard, what is an extra and what is not available.

Again in the UK, as well as no chimes for the door there are no chimes for the seat belt either. All this must be set by pre-loaded country derivative software. No doubt this can be changed if the dealer has the mechanics that know how to find the settings buried in some obscure menu and will be just a tick in the box.

You'll never find a way to get a dealer to disable the seatbelt chime, MB would not want that liability.

I've been through the menus and there's no way to turn off the entry chime. It might be available in a developer menu, but I wouldn't count on a dealer having the knowledge to do it.

Different markets decide what functions they want activated. e.g you will find people talking about "Netherlands" mode on many forums. i.e. the car chirps it's alarm when you lock the doors externally as an example. The seat belt chime on my "International Model" CLK starts off very quietly and only rises in volume if you ignore it for too long etc. etc. MBUSA would have selected activated features for your market.

A Star computer is the diagnostic unit used by dealers to interrogate all the car's systems including OBD (On Board Diagnostics). Many of the car's defaults can be changed with a dealer Star. Some can only be changed with developer mode activated on a Star. Dealer Stars are not supposed to have developer mode activated (very dangerous in the wrong hands). The Star unit also has the WIS (Workshop Information System) & EPC (Electronic Parts Catalogue) loaded. A Star can be connected live back to Germany for updates & certain joint diagnosis of difficult issues & Security.
