Best Dash Cams for W205's

Just wanted to know if anyone could provide feedback on what are some of the best dashcams that 'fit well' on the w205 windshield...

Anyone have any experience with different brands?

The Blackvue is certainly popular. I've been happy with my previous two units (albeit with minor tweaks). There was a good thread on this here:

Another vote for the Blackvue DR650GW-2CH from me. Been really pleased with it since I had it installed back in March.

Just avoid the 2.0 firmware they've just released until they smooth it out.

Is there an easy route for the cables in the W205 for both the front and rear camera?

Difficulty for self install?

That blackvue seems interesting...

EDIT: Found a thread with an easy route. Thanks

I installed a Mini 0806 a few months ago.

This is the most recent version which has followed on from the Mini 0803 and 0805 that preceded it.

They've had a mixed press, which I think is due to some of the early models being of questionable quality.

I have to say that mine is superb - it's extremely compact & discreet, video resolution up to 2304x1296, recording quality is excellent, it has dual memory card slots and has GPS stamping. All of this, plus a hard-wire kit for around GBP90 (EUR 125, US$135)

I will say that there is a widely reported firmware bug which effects the dual card switching. Basically it doesn't !

In my case, after around 12 hours of driving (which at my chosen video resolution is typically just over a week) the card is full and recording stops, rather than switching to the other card. For the time being I therefore have to scroll through the menu and wipe the card and start again. Hopefully a firmware update will correct this in due course.

If it's of interest, I posted a reply to a thread recently, detailing how I wired it up using USB power, rather than hard wiring to the fuseboard :-

https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...cam-radar.html

If you buy from a reputable source and avoid rip-off copies, they're a good option !

The Blackview is the one I am most interested in based on what I have seen online, especially the app capabiity.

My only question is it never mentions about its night time vision. Can you guys tell me how it does in the night?

The app is good - certainly handy to link play segments. No issues with night usage. Check out YouTube, there's plenty of examples online.

You don't need the powermagic, but it's good to have. It's simply a timer relay and a low voltage cut out. Makes it easy though to just fully automate the power for the dashcam. Without it you would probably just plug into your cigarette lighter. The issue with that is that when you park and lock the car, the cigarette lighter socket gets powered down and therefore the camera would stop filming.

With the powermagic the camera keeps getting power for a user defined amount of time after the ignition is turned off.

I really appreciate that feedback. Thank you

I decided a week ago that I didnt need a dashcam until yesterday where a POS in a POS civic got road rage and threw a bottle at my car..now its imperitive because even though I called the cops, there was no proof

Has anyone had issues with the Power Magic Pro with the stop start in their w205?

Also, who long does the car battery last when parked whilst in holidays?

Thanks

I've had zero issues with the Power Magic Pro. Great unit.
The starter battery in the 205 is quite large. We left the car untouched whilst on a month long vacation and had no issues starting when we came back.

I have a BlackVue and was hoping it would be the best thing since apple pie. The reality is the quality is great, but the app is a mess.

Seriously? .. what's the problem. You're talking about the PC or the phone app?

The phone app is just not intuitive at all. My qr code did not work to sync up to the cloud and instead of being able to manually set it up I had to wait a week for tech support to send me a "special code" don't get me wrong it's a great camera and I'm sure it will be fixed down the road but out of the box the phone app isn't great. For example any setting that you need to change will require a restart of the unit. Meaning you have to make one change wait for a restart make another change wait for a restart and so on.

Well i partly agree with you. The phone app can be improved. They have a great pc app though. Just pop your sd card out and set all your config on that.

Fantastic! Did you have it in parking mode, so it would record movements etc?

I've got my PowerMagic set to 4 hours after the engine is turned off. Rarely would I need it to stay on longer than that, but you can configure it any way you need (even have it on permanently).

Thanks, instead of the Power Magic Pro I'm tempted by the Lukas LK290 or LK350 which has a better 12.4v power cut off rather thank the lower Powermagic Pro cut off that may push the C250 battery into deep cycle when used for extended periods.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks

I installed a Koonlung K1S 2-channel, remote DVR system. It was a few hours of work but everything went in nicely and it's very discreet.

The battery will last in cold weather from 3 days to 10 days. this i heard from taxi drivers. My friend has his car in the garage and it will drain in 2 weeks.
