Steering wheel upgrade
Hey guys, just recently jumped ship from BMW to Merc and pretty happy with my c200 but would like a thicker, sportier steering wheel. Plenty of options on eBay eg:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/351614896...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
but the stealership is stuffing me around saying its too difficult to swap, no one there can tell me if I need another airbag or whether the stock steering wheel airbag will fit the AMG style steering wheel.
I'm hoping someone here has the know how and can help out before I go and spent a grand on something that potentially may not function.
Thanks heaps

A sport Wheel will most definately fit your vehicle, just make sure you are not missing out an any features equipped to your car such as lane assist or heated wheel, as these functions are integrated in the steering heel.

don't have any of those. The main problem is the airbag - if my stock one will fit the new sports wheel. And the dealer scared me saying the car need be reprogrammed - why? - I think everyone in AU MB are bloody idiots!
By the way did you end up keeping your aluminum steering wheel button and airbag mod?

There is no programming required as long as you unhook your battery before working.
Airbag will fit, there is a lot of vehicles using the same bag as well as steering wheel.
The leather airbag is still fitted in my car, but I refitted the stock button clusters as I didnt like the white lighting, but the button finish was great and I kinda miss that.

thanks mate
will get the steering wheel without airbag then.. hopefully I won't blow anything up trying to install it
In your thread about steering wheel buttons it looks dead easy taking the airbag off. Where is the battery main connector I need to unhook? and to take the steering wheel off - there is just one central lug, correct?

have just received the following letter from MP parts dealer... I'm now even more confused (
Hi,
Your standard steering wheel airbag will not fit this steering wheel (it's the known fact).
You need to look for the airbag A0008601702 9116
It fits both Sport & AMG Performance steering wheels.
Unfortunately I cannot sell airbag to you, as shipping of airbags is prohibited by airmail, perhaps you can buy it somewhere else who can ship it with no issues.
Regards

As long as you have the three spoke steering wheel it will fit, but please provide a picture of your current wheel as well as your VIN and ill check it out.
And yes, removal is easy, snap out the airbag, disconnect and unscrew the center bolt, hex 8 or 10mm

Your vehicle has a part number I havnt seen on these airbags, but I would be very surprised if it didnt fit, however I cannot assure you 100% compability.
