Noise after shut down - C450 - Turbo Cool Off

When I shut down the car, I hear a noise (fan/motor) sound for a few seconds after. What's that?

Also, wouldn't it be smart if the turbos cooled down a little before shutting the car off?

It's a fan doing what it is supposed to do, cooling the car off. Most newer turbo cars do this. The car is cooling off as you drive it, but turbos require more cooling once at rest, hence the fan you hear. Completely normal.

Fan cooled turbos?

Modern turbos shouldn't need babying but you might help by taking it easy driving wise for a few minutes after a good blast.

The fans could be anything, main engine, electrical ballast, modern cars have all sorts.

Pretty sure the turbos are oil cooled tho, main fan is for engine block and ancillaries.

I've just seen turbo timers used for the cool down. But I haven't seen stock cars with these before. So I don't see it as that.

If it is a ticking notice, There has been some issue with the hood cable falling into the Fan. Have a look. Just move the cable if that's the issue.

Yes, what you hear is a recirculating pump that continues to circulate oil through the turbos after shut down to cool them. Most modern turbocharged cars are using them now. No need to keep the car running before shutting down.

Such a relief to see suspensions being handed down from moderators to antagonistic members.

Those auxillary pumps move coolant through the turbos, not oil, but yeah they can run for anywhere from a couple seconds to several minutes after shutdown to keep the temps from getting too high in the centersections of the turbos. Nothing new, those have been around for a long time.

The fan is no different, the PCM looks at temperatures when you shut it down, and has authority to run the fans as needed after shutdown to keep it from heat soaking too badly.

They may be both water and oil cooled. Honestly, I haven't dug in there to check the plumbing.
