Wondering if anyone has seen or heard any definitive information about if the c43 SEDAN which is now the c450 will come with the 9g or keep the current 7G... I already know the coupe is coming with the 9g

There is nothing official (or reliable speculation) out there on this yet.

I think it is safe to assume that the C43 sedan will also have the new 9g transmission that is in the coupe.

Of course, MB could also not add it for whatever reason

I'm not calling this "definitive" information by any means, so take what you may away from this-- but the dealership (in Toronto, Canada) that I ordered my 450 from, as well as other MB reps that I know here, have all said to me that they are almost 100% sure that it will literally be JUST a rebadge...

Supposing they are right, I would imagine that the next year's model would have the 9g in keeping it consistent with the C43 coupe... but who knows... time will tell.

The 'definitive' rule is that if you're waiting for a 9 speed gearbox, they will bring it out the week after you've given up waiting and bought a 7G-tronic.

Seriously though - it's only a matter of time. The 205 was meant to come out with the 9G-TRONIC right from the start, but they obviously couldn't get it done in time. MB has been chaffing at the bit to get on top of BMW with the 8 speed offering for a while. It's getting crazy in the "one-gear" upmanship wars. Lexus and Honda are now releasing a 10 speed version for crying out loud! Any more gears and it'll be like riding a mountain bike.

Is this the dealer that also told you that all MB dealers will be taking in any C450 and rebadging it to C43 AMG if the owner wishes? Can't keep everything I read on here straight from who has said what, but I feel like I remember both of these things from one post.

A dealer rep is not a valid source for information. Why? Because more than once they have been wrong and very often say the negative part of something to be able to give you better news instead of the other way around.

By the way, I missed this prior, but in the Cab, even the C300 is getting the 9 speed, so if it comes to the sedan, i suspect it will be for the 300 and the 450/43

Haha, yup, you are correct.

Yes, my sales rep had called me within the last couple of months and informed me about the C450-AMG C43 change (which I had already known) and he said that after speaking with his manager, he's been talking to his customers who have 450's on order, and letting them know that bc of the "AMG" change, and being almost positive that it's just a rebadging change (at least to begin with), that the dealership (not MBCanada) will offer the AMG badging on the back for free if the customer so wishes.

Again, I know to take everything that the dealership says with a grain of salt... so, we'll see what happens when my car arrives here at the beginning of April.

The announced 43 models for SLC, C coupe, C cabriolet & E sedan all have a 9g-tronic transmission & front:rear 31:69 drive ratio. Would it now seem unlikely that the C43 sedan would be different with a 7g-tronic & 33:66 drive ratio? Wouldn't it be more logical to align the C43 sedan with all of the other 43 models with the transmission & drive ratio?

In this release it says "The 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission is especially matched to the demands of the Mercedes-AMG C 43 4MATIC", not specifying the Coupe part like they do in most every other sentence...but it's pure speculation on my part to assume that was intentional and not accidental.

Hopefully more details come out soon...overall, things have been very boring regarding details on the C43, even if they are largely the same as the C450.

I don't think all those models are getting 4MATIC though, no?

But they haven't even announced the c43 sedan yet so in actually it's true so far.. There is no c43 sedan yet.. Maybe when they announce the sedan they will change the wording..

At this point, it would make a lot more sense to drop the 9G into the sedan too. The initial rumors of badge change only were before the other models were announced. It may be enough of an incentive to get a few 450 owners to trade up if the 4.3 0-60 time is correct.

The 0-60 time isn't jumping half a second because of a transmission. The sedan may get the 9g for the upcoming model year, and if it does, it very likely will be across the board (300 and 43) and not part of a badge change.

It likely just has more boost. I believe MY2018 is when the 9G will be in the sedan as well as the C43 sedan, reason being that the 9G is only available for the coupe in C43 form and Diesel form. Not available for the gas engines yet probably means they will do the C300 Sedan and Coupe at the same time.

It even says on AMGs website the Coupe is only running 4.7, versus the C450 Sedans 4.9. No idea where he got 4.3 from?

Yes, I stand corrected that the C300 coupe is the 7 speed, although the release said the C300 Cab is the 9 speed. So really, no one (maybe including MB themselves) has any idea what the direction on the transmission is, other than they will all be 9G at some point in the not to distant future.

Don't know where Cajun got that from, I don't think any magazines have the car to test yet. I don't doubt one might get a 4.3 out of it eventually though. MB lists 4.6 for the coupe, 4.7 for the Cab, and 4.9 for the sedan. I don't think we know the weight of the coupe or cab yet (plus the lower profile may make it more aerodynamic) to guess how much of the 0-60 time improvement is due to weight versus trans. 0-60 with the 9 in the sedan will probably be better, but not half a second or even the .3 between the couple and the sedan. I don't think MB is thinking about current C450 owners trading up simply due to an extra tenth in a 0-60 t time, you'll be able to count that number on your fingers. The 9 speed is the way they are going though, so they may decided to do it now anyway.

Not sure where Cajun got that number from, as it clearly varies significantly from the AMG posted number which I trust more than Cajun's (no offense to him, I just favor official releases), but maybe he knows something none of us do?

So if the C43 sedan doesn't get the 9g-tronic until the 2018 update, there'll be 3 one-off 4MATIC vehicles ie C400, C450, C43 2017. MB could do better with their strategic planning for their V6 4MATIC C class.

Perhaps the lack of a C43 sedan announcement is because they are trying to get the 9g-tronic & 31:69 into it first up?
