Torn between C Class Coupe and Sedan?

Hello!

I noticed that in some parts of the world the C coupe isn't released yet, for example Australia and USA. Here are some pictures of the two cars next to eachother and a comparison video (in the Netherlands, Europe).

And here the video.

Cheers

Hello!

I'd say if you were torn between those 2 beautiful cars, choosing based on what you prefer (Sedan or Coupe) should settle it. Not which is better.

I would prefer the sedan cause I drive my friends around most of the time and a coupe would be annoying in my case. So based on your daily activities and who rides with you around and how you travel should be the deciding factor.

Either way you can't go wrong with any of them!

if i had the possibility to choose either sedan or coupe, i would choose coupe. i have seen one of these in traffic, same gray color as in the mercedes youtube videos, looks awesome.

I ordered my Coupé today, so I might be biased... ;-)
Seriously though, it's like Sam said, it all comes down to your needs.
If you don't "need" a sedan, go with the Coupé!

The Sedan is lighter than the Coupe, around 80 kilos less ! Yes that's incredible...

I'm into getting the coupe when available in the US...should be in May. My only problem with it is how will it fit into my garage along side of my other car. I will be parking it on the right side of the garage and there may be a problem with just how far the door will open before hitting car on its left.

One of the reasons I'll be giving up my Z4 is that it is now getting harder for me to get in and out of the car if I can't fully open the door without hitting the other car. I fear that I'll have the same problem with the coupe; so, if anyone can tell me (or help me find) the coupe's door dimensions, I'd be most appreciative.

+1

I on the other hand regularly have adult friends & family in the back seat of my C300, so a sedan is necessary for me since the rear headroom of the coupe is very limited.

I don't know the exact door dimensions. As you see in the video ^ the door is significantly larger than the sedans.

I do have this:

coupe

coupe

coupe

sedan

sedan

sedan

The C Class coupe has a wheelbase of 2.840m. For reference, the S Class coupe has a wheelbase of 2.945m. They have similar body styling and shapes, and the C Class coupe having about 3.5% less wheelbase length, theoretically the door should be 3.5% smaller, given the styling proportions are similar. If anyone with an S Class coupe could give us the length of their door, and you take off 3.5% of that (which is basically nothing) you'll have a rough estimate of what the C Coupe's door should be. I am telling you this though, the S Coupe has very big doors and so will the C Coupe. if you are parking in a cramped space I'd stick to the C Sedan, I have one (C450) and the doors are relatively small but not cramped or anything to enter or exit.

Attached is a picture of the S Coupe's dimensions

True, well thought out. The cars are exactly next to each other and at 9:16 you really see that the coupe's door is significantly larger than the sedans. Also the moment the door "rests" seems to be different. More distance between rest points for coupe' s door...

I really hate to think that the coupe's door may be too big and preclude my getting it. My Z4's door is 40", first stop is 24" open and second stop (full) is about another foot. The Z4's seat cushion is about 17" off the ground. Perhaps, with the coupe being higher than the Z4, I'd still be able to manage it. Ah, but at this point in my life, I need more than to just "manage it."

From the schematics above, I've been trying to figure out just how high off the ground the coupe's is, but I know I'm screwing up somewhere and perhaps you guys can filling the blanks. The cars total height off the ground is 1.405m (A). The high point of the front seat cushion is about .272m (am I correctly assuming that the schematics 272 is 0.272m???) higher than the bottom of the car (B). The roof to high point of seat cushion is somewhat under 1.023m (C). So, I'm figuring that A - (B + C) should approximate the height of the car off the ground. Converting to inches and running the formula (55.3" - (10.7" + 40.2") = 4.7" off the ground. Thus, the height from ground to high point of seat should be about 10.7" + 4.7" = ~15.4"...ugh, coming out somewhat less that the entrance height into my Z4. Hope I'm wrong....

Yes 0.272m is correct. That's 272milimeters(mm).

My Sedan is 195 mm from the ground till it touches the side bumber from underneath. I know is that the coupe is almost 15mm~0.59 inches lower than the sedan. So (195-15) that's 180mm. 180mm plus 272mm equals 452mm which is 17.8 inches.

So I assume 17.8 inches from the ground.

Hey, Dutch, just want you to know that I'm really appreciating your help. I think there is a little wiggle room in the calculations and the the high point of the seat may be a little higher, but I'm just going to have to wait for the car to come out in May and see for myself. But, to tell you the truth, this is a bummer (as I'm hot for the car wheich may very well be my last hurrah) thinking that it still may not be all that easy getting in and out of the car...we'll see.

Or you wait for the new E (coupe). That one can park in the garage without you being in the car... problem solved lol

As for last car, I'm getting a little long in the tooth and each new day is welcomed. Hey,
I got the answer to the door length (https://mbworld.org/forums/attachmen..._dog_ke_hs.pdf) and it is 1.397m = 55", which may be too long as my Z4's door is only 40". This revelation is really bumming me out as the extra 15" on the coupe may be a deal breaker. BTW, if you look at the schematic, it appears that the ground clearance is put at 91mm = 3.6", which also is not good news for me. Although I don't want to, I may have to start looking at the BMW 228 and 428. I do appreciate their driving characteristics, but I'm really knocked out by the MB's inside and outside styling

Truth be told, if you can swing it you should simply wait for the new E coupe to be revealed next year. The C coupe will sit EVEN LOWER than the Sport packaged sedan, it will have an even lower seating position, and will likely be the firmest between the sedan, coupe and cabriolet so expect a harsh ride unless you opt for Airmatic. It will be a sports car through and through.

The E coupe will be out of my price range. Don't really mind the potentially harsher ride; but truth be told, I think I'm getting ready for a little luxury over sport handling...and that is one of the reasons I'm not heavily into the BMWs.

If you don't need a sedan - the decision should be a no brainer IMO.

With luxury you are definitely at the right place with Mercedes. I've sat in the 4 series. It's no competition for Mercedes. Interior is not so nice. They used much hard plastic for the interior and it doesn't feel as special as Mercedes interior.

Unfortunately, I totally agree with your take on the specialness of the c300 coupe. I say unfortunately because I want the car, but may not be able to get it due to its"unfriendly" dimensions. Also, I would be very upset if I did buy it and had the anticipated "getting in/out" problems.

My next door neighbor has a q60 coupe that has a 55" door, and he also parks on the right. He says the door doesn't open fully and at times here is difficulty getting in/out. I'm going to try his car as it should be quite similar to the c300 coupe....

That Coupe is sexy as hell. I drive my 20,000 mile CLK one up most of the time so the easy to enter back seats work fine for me when needed. The huge doors are a consideration & the only potential negative. As I always park where people can't bash my doors or car in general it's not an issue for me.

While I was hoping that the C Coupe would be pillarless it's pretty well masked!

I wonder how the trunk space is in the C Class Coupe? Similar to that of the Sedan?

Seeing that I won't ever have to ride in the back seat, I don't really care if it's cramped back there (well, at least until I have a kid and need to make my way back there to strap him/her into their car seat)...but I will have to use the trunk quite often when I take my golf clubs home from the club, pick up groceries, etc. so that's a major sticking point for me.
