How are your rain sensing wipers?
Hi guys,
My wipers have not been really active or responsive since I got my windshield replaced. For example, it was pouring rain yesterday, and I had it on the "on" or intermittent position and it only wiped once!
What are your guys thoughts on yours?

They suck! And they squeak like crazy. And while I'm complaining, the auto high beams are bull**** too. I was driving home on a dark road last week and pushed forward the high beam stalk and it does nothing but put a light on the dash with the A next to it. The only way to actually use the high beams is by pulling and holding back on the stalk, or by switching the main headlight dial to the right (off Auto) and pushing forward on the stalk.

Your high beams are not working properly. Pulling the stalk back is the "flash" function. Pushing forward should engage the high beams with a warning light showing they're on. They stay on until you pull the stalk back again.
Regarding the rain sensing wipers, mine work okay. It takes some time for them to react to the amount of rain being detected, but they do eventually catch up. I've had these on other cars as well ... some work better than ours, some are even worse. I always preferred the good old manually selected intermittent wiper settings, but those seem to be going the way of the hand brake.

My rain sensing wipers have worked flawlessly for the year and a half I've had the car. I can't think of a time I've had to turn them on or off manually. Just have to remember to turn them off in a car wash.

First I had problems with my wipers. They were getting activated by fog and mist. Now they are just fine. For the ones complaining about auto high beam, I think that you can disable that feature and use them as normal high beams from dashboard menu.

It doesn't matter much. If you get an errant swipe on a dry windshield, which happens, just turn it off. It's not critical, just a matter of convenience.

I do though keep the light stalk in the forward position for the auto-high beams...an they work flawlessly as well.

The rain sensing feature works just fine. However, the wipers chatter like crazy and it drives me crazy.
Any one else have this problem?
Does replacing the OEM blades with better aftermarket ones help (I use Valero and I love them), or does the angle of the wiper arm need adjustment?

If they aren't coming on it's because it's not dark enough for them to. It doesn't have to be oncoming cars, overhead street lights also stop them from activating. Find a dark road and you'll see that they light up if it's pitch black ahead.

I believe someone posted a fix by adjusting the angle of the arms?

mine chatter like crazy now. I used to use rain-x washer fluid and they were smooth operators then. I stopped using rain-x and used their product that is supposed to take the rain-x residue off the windshield TWICE, but the water still beads up and the wipers chatter and squeak like crazy. Replacing the blades wont work, it didn't on my last car which also chattered like crazy.

DO NOT USE RAINX
From my experience, I got chatter after I used RainX, and it never got fixed until the windshield was replaced.
NEVER USE RAINX, it creates a coating on your windshield and it will mess your wipers up.

These are by far the worst wipers I've had on any car. They chatter and skip like crazy to the point where the entire car would shake! I had them replaced on my service A, and these are just as bad or worse than the first pair. I was so embarrassed when I took a client out for lunch and he said "Jesus what is wrong with those wipers"!?

If not fixed, ask them to replace the windshield. It took me maybe at least 5 visits to get it replaced - several months of annoying chatter. And yes, I am with you, I was embarrassed when I had my friend in my car that I had to turn up music volume to cover that chatter...

Get the Wiper arm changed, wiper angle twisted, wiper blade changed, do them all at once and see it by pouring water on the windshield will make the wiper chatter. Not windshield fluid, but just water to simulate the rain.

Thanks for the advice. Pretty frustrating that they charged me $58.00 to replace new wipers, with another set of new wipers. Only to have the same problem.

I had mine replaced at least 4 sets. All under warranty. Because the wiper chatter was an issue that should be covered under warranty. Otherwise, submit an inquiry to MBUSA.
Also, the dealer (or you by contacting MBUSA) can open up a case if they have maybe 2 or more attempts for a problem that they can't fix and need advise from MBUSA.
That's my case and they approved for a windshield replacement.
