C43 AMG - On Order
First world problem-Would you buy a fully loaded new car?

Hi everyone,

Newbie here, getting my first Mercedes this fall (hopefully)

I just got a call from my dealer says,to get the 19'' wheels, AMG driver's package must be selected, which include:

AMG steering wheel
19'' wheel & summer tire
2 mode selectable exhaust

The 19'' wheel is no longer a stand-alone option like the 450.

18'' will probably be the reasonable choice for me as I enjoy a softer ride and given the weather condition here in the great north.

However I do prefer the stylish 19'' and I am going to keep this car for a fairly long time. Leave no regret!

My concern is, once I add the pkg I'm looking at the pretty much fully loaded car and it makes little sense to pay for a whole pkg not THAT attractive to me just for the 19'' wheel. Sure I want a kickass exhaust that makes every C63 owner come smash my glass telling me how the engine is not built by one man, but I'm not going to miss much without it.

Since pricing is not out, the best comparison I can find (forgive my ignorance) is the BMW MPPK2 cost $2,500 CAD. CLA 45 have an option for AMG drivers pkg but no exhaust.

Any thought? Would you buy a fully loaded car, or get a whole pkg just for one option you relly want?

Cheers

Personally, I think it's a great package. You're not wasting anything in that package. If I'm not mistaken, the AMG steering wheel is the flat bottom wheel. If that's true, you'd definitely want it. It looks great, and it FEELS great. So you're getting more than 2 out of 3 there.

You live once ... What's another couple thousand if you're happier with the purchase every day?

You might get lucky with pricing... The AMG Performance Steering Wheel Napp/Dinamica was a $500 U.S. option and $250 CAN option on the C450. Which was a complete no-brainer if you lived in Canada.

Do you care about the heated steering wheel? I'm not sure you can get it with the AMG wheel, at least I couldn't in the US.

Both the standard and the AMG wheel are flat bottomed. THe AMG wheel has the synthetic suede in the grip area versus leather and says AMG on the bottom.

Seems odd packaging for wheels though.

I don't think heated steering wheels is available on the c450/c43 sedan here in Canada no matter which steering wheel you get, although it is listed as an option for c300...It would be great to have one but I think it will be just fine with the alcantara.

MB probably wants to make the car more "AMG like" by making us pay for the whole thing. After all they put a badge on it.

So your dealer already got C43 order guide? Care to share the pricing?

I have been out of the loop last few weeks.

Unless you live in Vancouver, anywhere else in Canada, you may as well get the 19" summer and buy another set of 18s with winter tires on them.

Yes I do have the order guide from my dealer, but it's for the C43 sedan.
However, pricing is not available yet.

That's what I'm thinking, 19 for summer and 18 for winter.

Those 3 things are must haves for me...so doing a package with them would be a no brainer. If you're going to keep it for a while, I'd do it in a heartbeat...I don't think any of those options are things you'll look back on and say "Damn that was a waste of money".

Just my $0.02

Coupe and Sedan order guides are out, search posts from Vipershade...he posted all the US ones at least (not sure on your location, I'm on my phone and can't see it).

Pricing is still marked as TBD at the moment, ordering blindly is fun (not really).

Don't know if I'm allowed to post it but here it is anyway, order guide for the Canadian C43 sedan, for those want to have a peek

It's not 100% accurate (19'' wheels listed as stand alone option but they're not).

The standard sport package steering wheel is also flat-bottomed. the AMG performance steering wheel was a $500 stand alone option which came with the dynamica suede grips and bigger paddle shifters

only if the value of the car fully loaded does not exceed 20% of my savings (if i'm paying upfront).

if financing, same thing. Monthly payments must not exceed 20% of my monthly disposable income.

i see far too many people that spend like 60-80% of their disposable income on car payments. this is a big no-no for me.

i tihnk every car i ever owned were fully loaded minus some gimmicks.
