COMAND 10.25" Screen Upgrades

Thanks JafG! That little video helped me with a lot of the questions I had and helped me understand the UI a little better. I appreciate it!
Still wondering if audio is thru FM modulation or if it's hardwired and tricks the real COMAND unit somehow. Would be interesting to find out. Tempted to buy now, and I probably will anyways, but I'm going to try to hold off until you get your APCast/Miracast unit installed.
The only other thing I wonder is the startup screen. You mentioned in the beginning of the video that you have specified COMAND to be the default main screen on the right. What other screens can be default? My ideal setup would be COMAND on the left and then iGo on the right; however, I would like if it automatically selected itself instead of the awkward WinCE white "Naviation" "Video" "Setup" screen. I wonder if "GPS" can be set as default by the main unit and then the WinCE side of things could auto-launch "Navigation." Mind taking a screenshot of the "Setup" under the "GPS" mode?
Appreciate it!

Hello,
i´ve just bought this monitor, and i´m very happy with it
the lack of no instructions it´s a bit messy for me... that´s why i ask here to other forum members that has installed it, the next questions:
.-every time i start up the car, i have to calibrate the screen (5 click to screen angles and ok) to engage video mode. This happens to yours?
.-FM frecuency standard is 100.0 Mhz, and if i change it to other frecuency , every time i start up ,it resets to 100.0 Mhz. This is normal on yours?
I appreciate your answers.
Thanks so much and best regards.

Does anyone with access to factory manuals on the W205 wanna compare the two connectors between the non MM car and a audio20/non MM car?
I'm willing to bet that the connector is the same and this unit just hasn't been tested in a MM vehicle.... Even with the 8.5" screen, I would still order this because bigger is better. That is, when my car arrives.

unfortunately the control units, do not adjust the resolution ad the 8.4" doesnt upscale the resolution.
basically the comand unit puts out a 960x540 image, and the audio 20 puts out 800x480. this 10.25" unit would have to do something with that signal and make it fit

Can someone who's installed this select it and describe what happens?
Does the screen resolution change?

This is pretty cool. I wish there was either a screen upgrade or software upgrade for those of us with Multimedia COMAND.

Thinking about this upgrade and i'm wondering if anyone knows if this has the functionality to mirror your iPhone screen only and then have all audio go through bluetooth like normal? I have the multimedia package and larger screen.
Thanks for any help/input!

it has composite input for you to connect miracast. but you'd have to buy miracast separately. And because HDMI doesn't work, I hate to tell you that composite video quality is very crappy.

i wonder if they couldn't have removed the nasty screen bezel........
the cheap chinese knock-offs can't never get 100% right, always a 10% missing as far as details.
in this day and age, and considering we have the money for a benz, they should have really bumped up the clarity of the screen, removed the bezel 100%, etc. Basically offer a premium add-on for a premium car.
i guess i'm nitpicking here, but i would never install such a low quality screen on a 50k car. on a honda civic? sure why not. on a benz? bring me the best or nothing at all!
i'm a tech geek before being a car enthusiast, so i'm just nit-picking here. don't mind me fellas, lol.

MBWorld Fanatic!
Every element in a car's interior has to be certified for crash worthiness. That screen has to either remain intact in a collision or destruct in a way that doesn't present a hazard to the occupants. Hence the bezel on the MM screen vs a floating edge to edge glass look. On the non MM screen, same issue and then some extra bezel to distract from the small screen size.
The MM screen has terrific resolution, while the base screen is admittedly blocky and pixilated by modern standards. If I were shopping or building a 205 I'd consider MM a must have. Pricey but at least you're not staring at that crappy little screen every minute you're in the car.

Truly plug and play?
if I have the base system in my C300, do I need to do anything special to get this to work out of the box? Would it otherwise just blow up the same OS to a larger resolution or a bigger display?

Yes, pretty much plug and play. You'd only have to remove the original LCD and not have to open the center console if you don't want to.

Do you know if it's possible, when swapping the 7 in screen to the 8.4 in. (and swapping the control unit) to get COMAND navi working fully if the car has navi prewiring? I hear there's some coding that has to be done in conjunction with the swap to get COMAND navi working

For those with this big screen installed, does your dealer give you a hard time when taking your car in for service? This is an obvious aftermarket upgrade in their eyes, so I'm curious.
Not sure about Mercedes dealers, but there are dealers out there voiding warranty for cars with "modidications" using aftermarket parts.
