DIY for replacing steering wheel?
I ordered a new sport steering wheel wrapped in alcantara off eBay. I've already found tutorials on removing the Airbag. What other steps are required to remove the steering wheel itself after getting rid of the Airbag? I know it's possible because there's other people who've done that on this forum.
Can someone weigh in who's done this before? Thanks!
Getting the wheel today, so I'll make sure to take pictures and post a DIY myself once I'm done with the process.
Gonna hit up Home Depot tomorrow and get a breaker bar/3 ft piping and try to knock that thing loose. If that doesn't work, then it's time to go bust out an impact gun. I'll have a full DIY one I finish the process.

Does this look like something that I need a steering wheel puller for? Just double checking because I was able to get an M10 hex nut in there and it's a perfect fit. It's just stuck.

Once that was done, I just unscrewed the nut out and pulled the old steering wheel out without a hitch. Popped the new one back in, torqued that nut to about 75 ft-lbs aaaaaaaand I realized that my non-AMG airbag won't fit with the new AMG wheel.
The only difference I can see between a non-AMG bag and an AMG bag online is that the front cover leather extends lower and around the bottom on the non-AMG bag. Gonna try to trim that section off and see if it'll fit. If not, time to grab an AMG airbag off eBay!

As for the control module, looks like I need to swap my contact plate from the old wheel to the new wheel because it's coded specifically for the car that it's installed in. My new wheel came with instructions on how to do that so I'll be following the procedure today after work.
Will post a thorough DIY once I finish the entire project.

Pictures of the new steering wheel are in that thread.

I was trying to contact Chris but I couldnt.
I have installed this steering wheel and this column (clock string). Everything works (buttons, lights, etc) but the paddles shifts don't. As I was reading down all your replies I am thinking about ordering the A212 900 29 24 that a mate bought. But I want first that whoever solved this problem confirm this is the way to solve this problem.
Extra info: Don't know if this could help, but there's a little red man sitting in front of a red ball in my cluster. I think it's an airbag error.

Firstly do you have a C Class or E class, it really doesn't matter, what does is if your vehicle is a sedan or estate. From your picture it appears that you have a clock spring (also referred to as a combination switch) that is found on an estate or hatch back on account of the stalk that has the regulator/switch for a rear wiper. Clock springs are very unique and you have to make sure that it is compatible with the type of vehicle you have, that is if you have a sedan you can't just put in one that is for a estate or hatch back as that is where your problems start.

Hope that this helps
