Most tire wear, front or rear

My 2016 CPO had the front tires replaced by the dealer when purchased 4k miles ago (RWD17" all around).Rears were slightly worn. I want this set of tires to wear out evenly so I'm thinking I should put the new ones on the rear. My previous cars wore the rears more than the fronts, but my local tire shop advised me that the fronts will wear faster than the rears. Do these cars wear the rears faster than the fronts.

If your tires are all the same size front and rear, you can just rotate the tires every 5-10k miles and you should have even tire wear.

I have a 2018 RWD with the sports package, staggered. Replaced the oem tires last week, both rears were around 2/32, front were 4/32 right and 5/32 left.

My front right was also more worn than my front left, is this normal for the C300?

Do point out OEM other than "tire rotation" there is only Toe "directional" adjustment. No Camber or Caster to allow to adjust tire contact angles to compensate for other than showroom height conditions.

Example day to day commuting encountering high cambered roads, altered height / wheel squat through load carrying, lowering or worn bushings. Fitting wide profile tires, curb knock damage.

Both "deletion of adjustment" and increased "within specs parameters" is all to do with ever increasing speed of vehicle assembly lines.

We saw the need therefore to re-instate from the early 90's once again full, precise adjustment. Front Camber and Caster, Rear Camber (and extra Toe to compensate for the new Camber facility). Fixing it right the 1st time - RESOLVING COSTLY, PREMATURE EDGE TIRE WEAR AND HIGHER IMPACT LOADS - which can also lead to increase in ruptured side walls and rim damage.

Adjustment kits are designed to replace at same time, the 4 front and rear highest wearing suspension bushings ..Unique patented KMAC design - precise "single wrench" adjustment. Accurately (under load) - direct on alignment rack.

Front Camber and Caster

I have the staggered tires and purchased the car about a year and a half ago and front and rear have worn nearly the same in about 10,000 miles. Depending on how you drive will determine if the front or rears wear faster. If you drive more conservatively then the fronts will probably wear faster, but if you drive more spiritedly like me then the tires awill likely wear faster. I can’t help but break the tires loose when it is wet and I am coming out of a corner.

At 102,000 miles my 2016 C300 is getting ready to get it's 5th set of rear tires. I am on my 3rd set of fronts. I drive a lot of highway miles and the rears wear on the outer edges and get real noisy after about 10-15K miles. I've had the car aligned 3 times and it doesn't help the rear wear.

Everyone knows Mercedes have issues with premature tyre ware sure to the lack of adjustability in their alignment.

I went through three three sets of tyres in 18 months due to premature wearing of both front and rear tyres but more so the fronts.

Mercedes or the tyre shop cannot fix this through alignment only, saying this Mercedes will still offer to align your tyres and take your money.

The only way way to fix this so your not buying tyres every 8-12 months is to fit camber kits which will allow for adjustment in turn allowing your new tyres to ware evenly.

I have run the K-Mac front and rear camber kits for approximately 2 years which is how long my last set of tyres have lasted me.

Fit this kit now or when you replace your tyres so you get the maximum life out of your tyres.

I did this along time ago and swear by this product, contact Kevin at K-Mac, he’s a wealth of knowledge and will save you a lot of money in the long run.

My GLC43 chewed up the fronts with only 25,000 miles. The rears are fine. 20" Goodyears.

My C450 is doing OK because I swapped the OEM Conti runflats with Pilot AS3+. They are holding up well but tire wear is still much more noticeable on the front tires.

I just put another set of rear tire on my car, that's 5 sets in 102.000 highway miles. The fronts last about 40-50k, the rears start making noise at about 10-14k miles and are so noisy by 18k miles I have to replace them. I'm going to call K-Mac and see if they have a kit for the rear of my 2016 c300. Thanks for the tip.
