My 12 inch screen and media keeps restarting when eco start/stop turns the engine back on. Not sure where the issue is but started after I installed the passenger side ambient trim.
Not sure if it's the alternator being overworked, low battery voltage on engine restart, a bad voltage controller or maybe I loosened the 12 inch screen connectors a bit when I was DIY installing.
Battery was replaced on 08/06/21. Needs more research.
Everything obviously works fine if I turn off eco start/stop.
Same thought here- not sure there's a reason to attach the GPS to the windshield, even if I wire it up to the unit.
Is there any value in the GPS? I only envision using CarPlay / Android Auto for maps and turn off GPS to reduce load on the CPU.
There's no reason to connect the GPS antenna or the little speaker if you're just using the screen with Carplay/AA. That's how I'm using my screen and I haven't missed either of those two. Some people use the screen exclusively on the Android side so they'd need to connect both of those.

I have a 2016 Mercedes SL 400 (R231) with Comand Online NTG 4.7. I know that this is the W205 Forum. However, it is the most active thread I found regarding the implementation of an Android display. And technically the displays and the NTG-System seem mostly the same.
I already implemented the display and it seems to be running just fine. I have the original Comand screen coming up correctly and can navigate thorugh it. I have sound and I also have Android Auto connection (I don't use iPhone anymore). And I even implemented a DAB+ Stick for digital radio which works just fine. However, I am still fighting with some problems:
1. Inserting the key starts my Comand system and the display as usual. However, if I remove the key and start the Comand by only pressing its power button the Comand itself starts (e.g. I can hear music from the the Comands's radio or sd-card), but the display stays off. I saw @benzdude mentioning this problem under post no. 73. However, I have not seen if he (or somenelse) has found a solution.
2. I still have not found out how to connect my smartphone reliably so I can use the display as speakerphone. Most of the time the other parties could hear me but I was not able to here them. The only thing that seemed to work was to parallely connect the phone with the display and the Comand unit. However, as I use two phones (private and business) I am not sure how to handle that (making sure, that one phone is always parallely connected with both the display and the Comand). Can anyone explain in more detail how to connect the Smartphone for flawless connection and maybe how to best handle two (or more) phones.
3. As to Android Auto it seems I always need to manually establish the connection by entering my phones Bluetooth settings and initiating the connection to the display. It does not seem to automatically connect once I start the display. And it seems I also cannot establish the connection from the display (by starting the "ZLINKS"- App). That is frustrating. Before I installed the display I had a RealTop box attached to the Comand unit (for providing Apple Carplay/Android Auto to my Comand system) and that always initiated the connection automatically when I started my car. Any solution for that?
4. Up to now I unfortunately have not been able to establish an internet connection with the display. itself I tried activating "Bluetooth thering" on the phone and establish the Bluetooth connection. But no internet. I tried again when connected via Android Auto (but switching from Android Auto to the regular Android system of the display seems to automatically close the Android Auto session). I also tried activating wifi-tethering on my phone and then connect via wifi. But even that did not work (besides having to restart the whole system to be able to connect via Android Auto again). Any solutions for that?
Thanks in advance for any help or any hints you could provide me with.
@benzdude Thanks for providing the boot animations and the instruction how to install them. That just worked fine and looks nice on my display.
Edit:
After playing around a little bit more I have to slightly correct the issues discribed above under No. 3 and 4:
No. 3: When starting the system the Bluetooth connection to the Comand unit establishs itself automatically whereas the Bluetooth connection to the display does not. I have to manually connect it through the Bluetooth settings of my phone. However, then also ZLINK-App kicks in and opens Android Auto.
No. 4: Bluetooth tethering (activated in my Smartphone) does not seem to work. Even when the Bluetooth connection is established the Android display cannot make use of the internet connection.of my Smartphone. So I tried Wifi tethering and it seems to be working. However, as long as I have Bluetooth activated the ZLINK-App is always trying to kick in and establish a wireless Android Auto connection (which also uses Wifi). That kicks out my Wifi thering connection to the phone. I cannot stop ZLINK from doing so. So using my Smartphone's Wifi tethering for the Android display only works when I deactivate Bluetooth on my Smartphone thereby causing ZLINK not trying for wireless Android Auto anymore. And when I then reactivate Bluetooth ZLINK is immediatley trying for the Android Auto connection again. However, it then cannot establish the connection anymore (it keeps trying and trying while it - of course - disconnects Wifi tetheing then). I need to restart the display to be able to get wireless Android Auto working again.
I also want to add two more questions:
No. 5: In the extended settings menu of the Android display there is an option to have the Navigation button of the Comand unit starting the Android navigation app. But that does not seem to work. The button on the Comand unit always starts ithe Comand navigation system (but does not switch to the Comand screen then). Any solution for that?
No. 6: I have found Google Assistant being pre-installed on my display. I have set it up with my Google account. I also found the options to set the behaviour of the "Speaker Assistant"-button on the steering wheel under the extended settings of the Android display. However, it seems there is no way to have the Google Assistant being called by a press on that button. I can only have "Kiwi"-Assistant kick in, which does not react to any of my Comands (even though I already switched the language of Kiwi-Assistant to German in its settings). Is there a way tio get Google Assistant being called by the Speeker Asstant button? Or can anyone describe at least what Kiwi is capable of doing?
Again, thanks in advance for any kind of help. Currently I am somehow stuck with all the connectivity and usability issues of the display.

im a returning MB owner. So I’m kinda out of the loop. I have a base 2017 c300. If so the price from when I originally saw it is way better (I think it was $500+)
If I get it. Are there any NJ members that I can pay for an install?

I'd recommend getting an Android 12 Snapdragon 662 unit. You'll find better support for them especially in Discord.
I installed my Android screen in my W205 today! I’m very happy with it and my IPhone connects in no time. Only my girlfriend had trouble connecting het Android Phone with the Android screen. Wired or wireless it doesn’t do anything…. Her phone connects with the ‘standard’ Bluetooth function but with the zLink button on the screen for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto it doesn’t do anything….
The biggest thing is you need BT 5.0 tech. older BT firmware has a huge audio/video lag so if you are watching youtube on your phone in your car, the audio will have a delay and sounds awful. I'm glad there's aftermarket parts for the new BT firmware its critical!
Got the DMP screen (12") set up today in my 2015 C300 AWD.
Looks and functions great. My only feedback is the following:
Unmounting the original screen harness and mounting the new one is difficult because of lack of space. It's difficult to fit your head in-between the windshield and dash. Would recommend having someone to hold the screen during the remounting process here.
The mount plate seems a little flimsy. Going to remount tomorrow to ensure it wasn't user error.
I am a little anxious about the wires (aux and usbs) being fed into the center console and how there's no alternative to screwing the console down on top of them. I hope over time the wires don't deteriorate or break as I use the console as an armrest a lot.
I am having audio lag on videos - sounds like I will be needing to get a DSP box.
And because I am not the best with my hands: get a good torque screwdriver with torx heads. I lost several torx heads inside the space where the head unit and media box are - user error going to try and fish out the parts with magnet tomorrow as well.

Reason: Grammar and spelling
Is there a step by step tutorial process for adding these boot animations? And mine also says "android" when it loads, does it get rid of that? Whenever I look this up I can't find a clear answer and the best I get are some videos of what people have added...nothing about the process of doing it.
Hello everyone.
I bought a ZLH-BC8008 10,25" car tablet with Android 13, 4gb, 32gb, 8core (MTK8581) and I'm very happy with it.
The only problems are that it is not translated well into Italian.
It has many translation errors
Does anyone know how to change it?
Does anyone know the file to extract and modify?
Thank you.
Hi @benzdude , have been going thru the thread and you are by far the most knowledgeable here.
I have a C300 2017. It has inbuilt cameras front and back and shows the drone view when I put it in reverse.
1. Will this work with the new screen?
Need the audio to be from the original car speakers.
2. Does installing these units change sound quality?
Planning to get the Android Auto unit. 10.5" or 12.5" does not matter as long as it fits right.
3. Currently, which one would you recommend buying?
4. Also, do these get Android Auto/carplay updates? (for example, the new update last I think in 2022 got the split screen option for maps)
With your extensive knowledge on this topic, your advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
