I'm strongly considering buying a 2015 C400 with approx 90k miles on the clock, 2 owners. Full dealer history. I have a test drive planned on Saturday
Currently I own a 2012 C200 which has been faultless.
Now that I'm doing some serious research I'm getting a bit nervous especially in respect to the issues with the panoramic roof on the w205 models. I've also read a bit around costly cat issues which also surpised me.
These are my questions.
1) 90k on 2015 model. Is there anything that I should pay special attention to? Normally I've always bought in the 20-30k mileage range, so this is significantly higher for me, but for a V6 it shouldn't matter, right? This is not high mileage??!?
2) Is there any way of testing the sunroof for warning signs that it may have the rail issue?
If the car is in impeccable shape and a great price I think it would grab my attention, but the early W205 chassis had some issues. The obvious pano issues which you are aware of, and the early models have guaranteed terribly creaky interiors, especially the US built ones. The early models also suffered from led door handle issues where they’d just stop working, not a big deal. The early C300 with the 2.0 was full of issues as you may be aware of, but I haven’t really seen anything on the C400. The C400 and C43 share the same engine, apart from turbos I believe, so it is a pretty stout motor, I wouldn’t be worried about it. I don’t know what market you’re in, but based off the fact you currently drive a C200 I’m guessing you’re overseas. The first couple years of the US built W205 were really poorly put together, I’ve seen and heard that the European and South African ones didn’t suffer many of the fit and finish and quality issues that the US built ones did. I’d really assess the car if I were you when you go to look at it.
I purchased a 2015 C400 last year with 105k miles with no issues so far ( knock on wood ) the car is so powerful, I threw AMR tune on it and I can't tell you how happy I am with the results ! Before and after
I did also some visual modification.
I had the door LED problem and I fixed it my self.. the only problem with that is the newer version has a different light color but eventually I'll end up changing them all...
I'd say go ahead with it.. you won't regret it ! You also have the full package.. mine doesn't have lane assist nor the airmatic suspension
Thanks so much for posting! Your c400 is a real stunner!
Its really helpful to read your experience as we're talking same year and approx mileage. I'm going later this afternoon to test it...!
