C450 CarPlay upgrade - module or new display?

I no longer get traffic information on my C450 (with COMAND 5*2) and want to get Apple CarPlay anyway. In Europe, there’s no,option to activate it for this car. What would you recommend between the two methods - adding a module but keeping the original display, or changing the head unit for an android (or Linux) display? The added module works out cheaper and the installation process seems quite similar, but which is the better solution? If something goes wrong, the added module can always be removed, maybe more difficult with the android display unless I keep it.
Roadtop seems a good supplier for these, but interested to know if you have other recommendations.
Thanks for any advice.

I would say module first since that is the easiest way then decide if you want the screen later.

I was on the same debate as you but decided to go the linux screen route. Went for the 12.3 inch and I am very happy with it. It uses the Merc Bluetooth, and sound is of very good quality.
Easy install and modernizes the interior. I got it from RoadTop.

No, it is not possible to activate if the car is older than 2017. Only with additional module.

No, that’s only for when wired CarPlay is already installed.

So there is no module or box that will work if the vehicle doesn't have any sort of it beforehand?

Unfortunately, you will need to invest in a box or Android or Linux Screen.

This is how my Linux screen looks.

I believe its my camera angle. The is pretty nice and slim bezel. I like the fact that there is not much to update like Android.

I bought it from roadtop.com. Good customer service, quick shipping and super easy to install. Did it myself.

would you be able to take some photos from further back?

also, the unit on their website doesn't appear to be the same as it has much thicker bezels?

I was surprised by the bezel as well. I thought it would be the larger, but got this nice one.

Wait so it is the same one? The image is misleading, the actual product is thinner? That is a strange approach then. Usually when you think of an illustration on a menu at a restaurant for example, the food will always look better than the actual food that gets served.

You can install a the module but most people opt for the Android Screen with Carplay.

In Canada, the W205 -2015-2016 didn't comes with option for Apple Carplay however I do know that there is module that adds this feature.

Do you mind telling us what module was this? Although I agree, think the screen upgrade makes more sense, unlike the module is easier and much easier to reverse? Thank you.

Does it sit higher over the vents compared to the OEM facelift version? I noticed there is a trend by some in the aftermarket industry to advertise they have lowered the installed position compared to their earlier models.

shame that it doesn't sit as low as the OEM unit, not sure what the go is with aftermarket units sitting really high?

looks nice with the smaller bezels though. is there any issue with audio delay? or a bit of input lag when using the scroll wheel?

Yes, it is a bit bigger. But it does sit on top of the center console and is just a little bit shorter in length than the center console and makes it a perfect fit.

That is very nice, good to hear it does not appear out of place in real life as well.
