My S206 220d

Hi All,

I took delivery of my new S206 220d AMG line in January 2022 after a 7 month wait. Sadly the car did not come with the Burmester which I had ordered. A big omission since this was one of the most important options for me. I was only informed of the missing Burmester after the car had been built meaning a rejection of the car would add at least another 6 months of wait time. Even now this is an option I dearly miss and makes ownership much less enjoyable.

I have had a number of mainly software and sensor related technical issues since taking delivery, probably too many to mention here, but on the whole the car is good to drive.

One question I have for fellow 206 owners is the much advertised remote updates for software and maps. Since taking delivery in January my car has not received a single map or software update via the Mercedes Me App or the car itself. All other Mercedes Me aspects work fine such as remote locking, unlocking etc.

I recently took the car for some warranty work related to the driver assistance systems and requested the latest MBUX release (that includes the Zero Layer) be installed. This option was installed but only by going to the dealership. The version of MBUX my S206 is running is RL_NTG7_E316.505_22092AC3

I would like to ask other W206 or S206 owners if they are receiving regular remote map and software updates or if this is a common issue? The user guide for the car says there should be updates at least every 3 months.

Thanks!

not a 206 owner but map updates even in 205 facelift, W213, W222 comes in a staged roll-out, so the quickest way is to manually download the map from Mercedes Me Connect Portal to a media storage device, plug-in the usb drive or insert the memory card to your vehicle and then you install updates that way. OTA map updates takes time to download to your vehicle once it does arrive plus speech data might need to be updated manually anyways (at least that was true before 206, not sure 206 still needs to manually update speech data). As for general software updates, they too are a staggered roll-out so going to the dealership to update is the quickest way. Do keep in mind that software that affect safety systems for example are not updated via OTA just in case something goes wrong, not applicable in your case though.

I had a CLA Shooting Brake on loan for a couple of months whilst waiting for my S206 to arrive. It has several map updates and a number of other OTA updates during this time. It just seems a little strange that my S206 has had none in the 6 months of ownership. If updates are only available via the website or the dealer then there seems little point to the OTA updates. It just makes me wonder that something is not configured correctly either with the car or Mercedes Me.

I believe there was some misunderstanding, I never said updates are only available on the website or from a dealership, I am saying safety related updates are only available at the dealership because if the software is buggy, it may cause serious issues which leads to serious consequences so MB would never push those specific updates via OTA.
Maybe your vehicle is just new and there aren't many new updates out yet? Your best resort will be contacting customer support in that case.

Edit: Sorry about that, I forgot you mentioned you had the vehicle for 6 months, I guess you could ask your dealership what was updated in the last MBUX update if there are safety related systems updated. That might explain why your car didn't update to the latest MBUX version OTA.

I agree, and hope you are correct. MB support are pretty useless. Most of my requests for support go unanswered.

It's not possible to call. I'm sure they would simply say there are no updates available, true or not ; )

On the flip side maybe not having updates is a good thing, means there are no bugs needed to be fixed.
