Tempting. I wouldn't mind a bit more roar when hitting the petal. Considering the X-pipe if the straight is too loud for a daily driver.

Check my thread on the straight pipe... its the best exhaust mod for the money.

I checked it out. Do you have any videos from the inside of the car? Also, when accelerating around town, does it attract too much attention. I think I might need to try it out and go to same shop you guys are going to.

No vid inside- as for around town it can be louder depending on how you drive but its no more loud than a stock mustang GT or GT500 IMHO. Its a legit clean sound. And as I said in that thread- its a simple mod to reverse.

Im almost ready to pull the trigger on an E63TT Wagon and the day I take delivery it will go straight to my muffler guy. My guy is in Long Beach so its a drive for you- I think you will be fine with a good muffler shop in SD- ACG can do it.

So definitely louder inside the cabin while cruising around? Not sure of the mustang GT but louder than a Porsche?

The E63TT wagon is going to be sick ride. I saw one the day I picked up my car. Do some tints, wheels, lowered, ect....

I'm actually about an hour north of Los Angeles. I'm usually in LA about every week so it shouldn't be too much of a drive. I was thinking of planning doing the pipes, lowering springs, and spacers somewhat together. I would rather go to the shops that are familiar with this car. Pipes in long beach and maybe the other stuff that did your work down south.

oh my bad, I was thinking you were in SD--- if you are in LA a lot then my post on the resonator delete has the info for Hi Flow Muffler in Long Beach. And for lowering use Benzworks in Huntington Beach. If you call Benzworks in advance they will get you the spacers- they did for me when I was running stock wheels.

It is louder inside under load but its a good loud for me. And when cruising around 2500-2800 rpms its not loud at all. I have a Cargraphic 200 cell exhaust on my 2011 997TT and the CLSTT is louder under load. The Porsche has that more "exotic" sound when hitting the throttle and the CLS has that mean growl that scares little children.

For those of you in the Delaware Valley I had VAS Motorsports work up a quote for me on this yeterday and I am getting it done on Tuesday and will let you know how it works out next week. The fabricator seemed to really know what he was talking about. I don't know how you guys in Cali have these local muffler performance guys that do this sort of work but I wasn't getting the warm and fuzzines from any muffler shop I called in Philly.

If VAS does a good job on the resonator delete I will likely move my KW kit install work from AWE when it comes in --- seemed like a really good group of guys over there. They have a good relationship with Rentech and said they can do the flash for me there on the premisis...still deciding if and when to pull the trigger on that.

I only go to one shop- Hi Flow and the owner is Pepe- very well known in SoCAl with the AMG crowd. It was not an impulse choice trust me. Cali is definitely a more tuner prevalent state than most.

I recently bought a '12 CLS63 with a ETG Tune on it. (formerly JeffRB's car) I am going to do the exact same mod (straight pipes, not X) on the resonator. My big question (and hope) is that it makes the Turbo Spool more noticeable. I want to hear those babys! I can now, but can imagine this would help a tad? I am also looking to do catless DP's to really open up the sound and some power.

Please Advise.

Thanks,

I honestly dont know about the spooling being more noticeable. The exhaust is definitely louder. The resonator delete is for exhaust sound and as you said the DP's will open up the car completely with both sound and power.

for the louder sound, either you go for resontor delete or down pipe with no cats ( i prefer a downpipe with no cats for two reasons)

1- more power + turbo spool is a lot louder
2- not messing with stock exhuast and just from the bolts for downpipe ( can be reversed to stock without a clue)

it is loud with the downpipe and gives more power, doing the both will make it load to the annoying level.

here is my thread for bassing and revvin with downpipe ( stock tune )

I have straight pipes in place of the resonator, and I would say the exhaust sounds has increased, while the spooling sound didn't significantly increase.

I think it's pretty comparable. Different tone, but pretty darn close to my old C63.

I've seen both videos, res delete and down pipes. Tough decision, you have the cel Come on with downpipes though right? So you'll need a stage 2 tune as well to get rid of it.

Tough choice.

I would seriously consider this option if I did not have to get a yearly emissions test.

On a related note, the guys at my tuning shop want to install high flow cats when they pull my resonator off on Tuesday but I am concerned it will trigger a check engine light and Mercedes Tech error codes when I go in for service. Have you expereinced this with your catless set up?

Straight pipes! Car sounds great, had it done by mufflex in NJ. These cars are a gentleman's car and you get a great sound without it being obnoxious.

I would do X-pipes if you are going to do cat mod. Haven't seen anyone with res delete x-pipe and cat delete. I'm so curious to hear it for myself.

did the straight pipes. AMAZING mod. Waiting for someone to release bolt on DP's. I have an ETG tune, with that I shouldn't have CEL problems correct?

I'm waiting for bolt on DP's, the shop that did the work said he can...told me to wait though see if prices are good once they come out. If not he'll do it.

Thanks correct. V-Tech has a stage 2 tune for the CEL issue. I'm thinking about going this route, but would like to hear a car in person with the down pipes. Being that my wife drives my car is can't be too loud or I'll put up with a lot of grief

Talk to ETG to find out, but I'm pretty sure they will have to retune for the CEL issue, or you could go with the V-Tech stage 2 tune.

Res Delete Done

Mike and Chris at VAC Motorsports just emailed me these. Looks like an awesome job! Can't wait to pick it up after work.

Will post video of exhaust sound while driving as it seems no one has yet.

It sounds awesome. Honestly I don't know why you would want it any louder. I set off one car alarm on the drive home through the city.

Check out this sound in this video, which should give everyone an idea of what it sounds like while driving at different RPM ranges and on start up and idle.

Anyone done the resonator delete in San Diego? Previously Vic said ACG can do this--wondering if anyone has pulled the trigger?

Didn't do mine in SD, but it's a very straight forward job - any mildly competent shop should be able to have it done in around an hour.
