Funny how they pit the M5 vs. the CLS as the E63 would have been more appropriate. Based on the driver's commentary I would have thought the M5 would have been farther ahead timewise. I couldnt tell if the car was a PP car either which would have leveled the HP playingfield...

Thanks for the post.

From the video looks like the CLS barely rolled out, but still caught the M in the end. The lap time was .5 sec which is nothing. I really want to see these things run at the strip.

Yeah, they should have tested it against the E and then waited for the M6 to test against the CLS.

a car that gets very poor gas mileage.
What's with these videos and the launches?
Anyway, nice to see two great cars going at it on an open strip.

CLS must have PP to keep M5. And there is carbon fiber trunk spoiler.

Only thing that video suggests to me is both cars are going to need supporting cooling modifications to be tracked or modified. Obviously we don't know how many laps were done or what the conditions were but it seems like oil temp/coolant temp became an issue.

Guys I luckily came across an M5 F10 today and got the chance to race him, the car is fast! My car is equipped with an extra cooler, computer tune and 200 cell highflow cats. I was 4-5 car lengths a head from 60-220 km. My car is also equipped with semi-slicks!

Yeah I believe it's a US vs Europe thing. My PP configuration comes with LSD, carbon fiber trunk spoiler, mirrors and engine cover in addition to the red calibers.

This being a SA car I have no clue what the PP package includes.

With all that being said, it's quite possible this car does not have PP, therefor, does not have 550HP.

This car is obviously not a US spec car. It has no front bumper side marker.
This is a Euro spec CLS63.

Now, let's assume that it has PP...the owner would have to elect to have CF rear spoiler deleted, CF side view mirrors deleted, and red calipers deleted.

My best GUESS, is that this car is non PP.

I think its the Euro ordering scheme vs US--- for me to get the carbon fiber spoiler its a seperate option. Im glad I dont have it since my car is black.

Good eye--- this makes me wonder how fast the M5 really is or not since the non PP car is "only" 518 hp.

I specced the E63 on the UK website and the PP package did not come with the red calipers if I remember correctly. May or may not be the same with the CLS. But the test driver said he had made a mistake on the first corner as well as losing "100 kw" on the final straight.. I think if those things didnt happen the gap would have been much closer

That is correct, and the test was done at a high altitude of plus minus 1600m? above sea level. Conditions are dry and hot, with a bit of scattered rain.

That M5 was fully race prepared, the AMG CLS63TT, was just chosen out of a lot from the factory in East London.

Mercedes Benz attitude here in South Africa, they do not bother with road tests or any who is better, who is not.

In South Africa, AMG is so big, they sell more AMG models than BMW M division can produce.

The BMW M5 F10 V8TT is a wonderful automobile in every respect, but they just can't ever come close to the builders from AMG.

4 car length is almost how you passed me, so it is strong.

don't forget that it may be tuned. i know PP Performance tuned some of them

I had problems with the tuning when I raced you and I have changed the cats since that too, my car has completely changed, the M5 is not tuned and it is FAST!
