So I drove my 2002 C32 in the rain today for the first time and the windscreen wipers (on intermitant setting (1)) don't seem to be adjusting based on the amount of rain.
I've looked at the windscreen and I can see a sensor behind the rear view mirror, isn't this for the wipers? if so is there any other way to tell if they should be adjusting and are faulty or wether I don't have that feature.

I had the same problem at first, I Know my car has rain sensors but not sure if it was working. I took it to the dealer for service and he told me that the windsheld was replaced with a non MB glass so the sensor is gone. look at the glass and see if its original, if not then there is your problem. hope this helps!

If you are in the garage (or other dry place) and they're not wiping while in the intermittant setting, then they are rain sensing.

the "spider net" in top middle on the windscreen is the rain sensor element
is it really adjustable ?

What are you talking about??? They're discussing whether the rain sensor is functioning or not and if an after market windhield was used making the whole system inoperable.

The windscreen still has an MB dealer/signature sticker on it so I think it's original, any other ideas?

it should have the PPG and mercedes benz logo on it. the best way is to take it to the dealer since your car is still on warranty

Just because an after market windshield may have been installed would have nothing to do with your rain sensor working(since your windshield is etched for the sensor-pic). Some cars do not have the rain sensor OPTION installed like mine. The only way to tell for sure is to pop off the plastic cover and see if the two connectors are plugged into a module or they are just hanging. In my case they just hang there.

So I took the cover off and there's a connector there so it looks like I'll have to take the car to the dealer to try and sort out what the problem is.
Another question I now have is what's the space for next to the sensor/connector/wiring in the photos, the windscreen is set up for two sensors, does anyone know what the other one's for?

So MB now tell me that I don't have rain sensing wipers and that the sensor's a light sensor, does this sound right to anyone, it sounds odd to me?

Can someone with rain sensing wipers post a photo of the sensor area of their windscreen so I can compare?

You can get the dealer to pull up the window sticker by giving them the VIN. Then you will know for sure if the car came from the factory with that option.
