I have often wondered why MB and BMW put speed limiters on their vehicles. How come some American sports cars don't have this limitation on them ?

but in my experience american cars put the limit way lower... so im ok with 155, besides, how often are we at that speed or god for bid, faster...Although, don't get me wrong, i want to see what my can do unlimited, but the 405 freeway isn't the place for me... I have seen 155 in my car thus far

Hes probably talking about vipers, corvettes etc which are limited at 180 + mph.

The safety limit 250km/h is based on Autobahn safety limit. Even some portion of Autobahn does not have sppedlimit, but the German worked out that an average driver with good health can drive a car safely as long as it is under 250km/h.

From what I understand, the electronic speed limiters on German cars are sort of "gentleman's agreements" between German car companies. Much like the 270hp "output limit" on fast Japanese cars, it's something that is voluntarily adhered to. For what reason, I do not know.

One of the biggest reasons for speed limiters..regardless of the manufacturer is.........tires and increase in cost per unit.In order to match potential engine output with the right tires would cause a HUGE increase per unit cost on the vehicle. It's easier to electronically choke down the engine and then put the responsibility, legal liability , and financial obligation on you the car owner to modify the vehicle to your liking. It's all about the $$$$$$$

I got the video, but I don't have the bandwidth to host it.

Did the person who posted this video actually take the video because the C55 is unrecognizeable and it is unclear if the person in the 545i is saying C55 or E55?

Description of video:

Two guys (semi-foolish guys) pushing the limits of a 545i at night on a busy freeway and a much bigger fool passes them at very high speed in an AMG sedan. It's taken on a cell phone and nothing is clear except that neither car should have been going that fast on a busy highway at night.

Lets get it clear, I was taking the video sitting on the passenger side of the 545i. My C55 which was driven by my other friend zoomed by at 160 mph. I said "C55" not E55 otherwise why would it be here??

like i said before, its taken from my cell phone....quality is bad....if you dont like it..dont watch it...Im here to show people how fast the C55 can go...not to start a flame.
