Untrustworthy fuel gauge/range readings...

Today was the first day in my driving history that I actually ran out of fuel while on the road. I was on my way back to Bethesda from Georgetown when the reserve light came on... I checked the range which read 30+ miles, so I thought I'd keep going another several miles until I got to the usual local station. I was on the GW parkway (which for some reason was constructed w/out a shoulder) when I lost power and had to pull over onto the grass. The fuel gauge was between the last quarter and "0" and the range read 22 miles. Roadside assitance brought me a couple gallons and I was on my way... I'll never trust that optimistic gauge or range again...

I see that I have a twin in Sterling... I've seen a few silver and platinum C55s, but no black ones around here.. Nice color choice

If those fuel gauges in your car are the same as in my car and all c classes have the same gauges, then the 05's are very untrustworthy. I posted this a while back and at exactly the same point that your car lost power so did mine after only two months of having it. I was like WTF. My GF's Honda is more reliable in gauges than this damn car. That had never happened to me before and now because of the embarrassment and hassle of that experience I never let the gas go too much below a quarter.
GET IT TOGETHER MB! HOPE THIS NEW MANAGEMENT BRINGS BACK THE MB QUALITY AND TRUST!

Sound like definitely the C55 (W203s) fuel guage is NOT trustworthy!
Mercedes should feel asham about this.
Not too surprise if the 'distance' reading is inaccurate as I guess it is calculated based on averaging fuel consumptions rate of at various driving styles. But, it is unacceptable to run out of fuel before fuel guage reading is reaching "0". Anyway, is it forgivable because C55 is a big fuel eater modified from a MB base model W203 ? e.g. 52 litre fuel tank is no good , even SLK has a bigger fuel tank ! Personally, I think it is not forgivable because paying so much for the AMG name - and they should make sure a AMG model is not just one with a bigger engine but all the qualities should be there too

I'm not sure about you guys but I was lucky. I was stuck in traffic driving into Baltimore on the MLK and I had no fuel!! the reading said 0 and I was sweating bullets. I had no where to go. I had ignored a couple of gas station exits on 95 thinking I'll be fine. Well I get to Baltimore stuck in traffic and without gas and hoping for a miracle. Somehow the car kept on going through traffic. I got no help from a police officer once I got downtown by saying he didnt know of any gas station in the area. The car kept on going. I luckily had my cousin direct me to a gas station. I was really impressed with the gas mileage after the reading read 0.

Unfortunately, it is well known problem affecting W203s, W208s and W209s. There were several TSBs on this subject. Dealer has the answer.

There was a bulletin released yesterday about incorrect fuel gage readings......it's not a big deal. Really, it's just version coding.
