I was driving up the 110N in LA, and spotted a black Bentley Continental GT. It looked pretty new, no plates yet. Traffic was medium and I sort of got trapped between cars, and he was off and out of sight. I thought I'd lost him.
The merger to the 10W is a long, banked, sweeping turn. I like to take this turn fast if there aren't any other cars around, and last night it was empty. So I'm pushing hard through the turn, and guess who I see? It's the GT and I'm gaining fast. As soon as I get within 10 yards or so, I see the GT lurch forward - he floors it. This is just where the turn starts straightening out, so I floor it too. Maybe 4-5 seconds went by, but it felt like an eternity.
At first, I kept up perfectly. I couldn't gain, but he wasn't getting any farther away. I'd never been so proud of my car. After a second or two, I could see him ever so slowly start putting distance on me. I doubt we were even going a hundred, but I had to immediately slow down because we were finally merging onto the 10. At around the time I stepped off the gas, the GT seemed like it was really picking up speed, no way I could have hung. He got around a car that had to brake to avoid hitting, and he was gone again. I thought about trying to catch up again to give him a thumbs up or something, but traffic was medium again, and I had to exit.
Anyways, it was a fun night. I've owned the C32 since April, and this is my first psuedo-race in my life. Fun stuff guys.

Nice one! Continental GT's aren't that fast.. Acceleration from 0-62 mph/s is 5.6 seconds, according to German car mags.

Yes, the GT is relatively slow off of the line (the result of its 3-ton weight). On the freeway, however, the 550 or so HP is hard to keep up with. My good friend is taking delivery on a new GT next month. I plan on shooting a vid of a race with my modded C32.
In any case, nice run! Take pride in the fact that your Benz just ran with a car which costs in excess of a buck-and-a-half.

I bet if you stayed on it,you would of caught him.Maybe not passed him or beat him but much closer.550hp is alot, but the power to weight ratio has to be in the c's favor?? C-55 right?? I wasnt looking that close?

Those things are pathetic. Id rather have a DB9 for that price.

ExploreAre you guys kidding me? I remember reading an issue of "Autocar" (UK weekly car mag) and they were only able to manage 0-60 in 5.4 sec for the DB9 coupe.... SLOWWWWWW....

Isn't it interesting that the Aston Martin V12 is composed of two ford Taurus duratec V6 engines mated by Cosworth....

C55 would have caught him & stayed with him until 140/150mph.

no way... As was mentioned earlier, the GT's high power output would be at its best on the highway....

Did I switch to the "Arsshole Martin" forum or something? What about our very own SL65? It will smoke (bigtime) both the Ford and the VW (Aston and the Bentley). If you want more space, try the S65. Probably could load 5 adults in the S65 and still smoke either of them (with just the driver).

The Aston Martin DB9 may not be as quick as the SL/CL/S65 AMG cars, but it is far more exclusive and exotic looking.. The SL/CL/S65 cars look like the garden variety models. I saw an SL65 at the local dealership for $195K.. For $195K, I'd rather have something more exotic...Originally Posted by Vomit
