Thumbs up GTOs are always ready to play

I am starting to see them everywhere and I just can't say no. Apparently, neither can they.

This time I was exiting the freeway close to home and my wife was beside me, which usually means lost opportunities when it comes to roadplay.
6.0 at the stopsign, seemed as if he was waiting for someone, anyone to give him a run.

So I start by telling her that "these things kick ***, 400 horses and blah, blah, blah. Probably smoke me. Surprise, surprise she says go for it.

He takes off slowly and allows me to catch up to him after we both take a 90 degree left. Noses even we cruise for a bit longer sizing each other up. I was hoping he would jump on it so I could watch from his rear quarter to see how we did, but after a few seconds I decided to nail it. The great thing is he nailed at the same time or very close after, as he was right with me but behind by a half-length.

I expected him to start slowly pulling on me but it never happened. We were glued together for about 7 seconds and then the road was done so we reined it in.

He went left and I went right, with a satisified grin on my face and my wife saying "holy sh$t!"

You were lucky....maybe not a great shifter on the GTO. They will kill you in any shape or form (dead stop, rolling 1st or 2nd or 3rd gears).

I "raced" NormC32 (old C32 owner....now a black GTO owner) and there was no way I could compete.....he killed me every single time!

Now that I have the SLK55 I MAY have a slightly better chance! Those things are fast.

PS: were were both stock. Now he has a Corsa exhaust(lighter than stock and a kick *** note) and something like 17 pound wheels on each corner; I'm still stock!

You will kill a GTO 6.0 in your SLK55.

I'll tell you in the Spring!
Maybe if it stops snowing and we have a dry road and we are both not working then...

I have to admit the number GTO's put down are VERY respectable (0-60 etc) (not entirely sure of the exact numbers but...)

The best I've seen them run here in Vegas is a 14.1 and a 14.4 for last years GTO. A C32 should be able to beat the GTO too.

That is SO true. It's a disgrace to the GTO's and Chargers for that matter of yesteryear.

ex-C32
jcanabal and I went at when he had his stock C32. Like he said the '05 6.0 GTO pulled at any speed and any gear on the C32.

With about 2,000 miles I ran 13.2 @ 107 MPH, spinning the tires every gear change. Even 3-4 change. This was on 400 wear rating all-season tires. Don't know why GM would put all-season tires on a 400hp car aside from keeping it off the bumper of a Vette. I do over 20 track days with the Audi Club and MBCA per year with about 20K miles currently. So it should be ready for the white SLK55.

I have a digital camera and jcanabal and I will get some video this spring.

They don't run 13.2 in Vegas... not even close to that. I know elevation makes a difference, but a whole second??? And, a trap of 107 is brutally high. The best trap I've seen here on the 6.0 GTO was 100mph. You must be one hell of a driver.

have both

I have a stock 2002 C32 AMG and a 2005 Automatic GTO and they both feel the same to me, the GTO feels only a little bit faster, but I haven't really broken it in yet, it has less than 200 miles on it now.

That sounds about right... marginally faster than the C32.

i have a clk55 209 w/ exhaust (muffler only) and k&n filters

i raced a gto up to about 85 (he had exhaust 4 sure) from about a 10-15 mph roll. we were dead even the whole time, until the corners came, i was all over him. :v
it was the 6.0 version.
a slk55 should have no problem eatin a stock 1 for breakfast lunch dinner and desert :p

2002 C32 Black/Charcoal
Sounds like we're all back to the reality that the outcome of a race between two cars in roughly the same performance category will vary from car to car and day to day.

C32s in particular seem to really vary from car to car and day to day. Just look at Evosport's dynos. . . some have as little as 260 RWHP stock, some have as much as 300. Also, we all know the diff between a cold and hot day for C32 performance.

The simple reality is this: In a race between a C32 and a GTO, the odds are probably slightly on the GTO. However, given 100 chance encounters, the C32 will probably win 20 or 30 of them. In other words, it does not make sense to make absurd, absolute statements like "the GTO will kick a stock C32 any day, any time."

Select a particularly fast, stock C32, and a particularly slow, stock GTO, make it a cold day, and the C32 will probably win. Average day, average cars, and the GTO probably wins.

A 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is standard, and a 6-speed manual transmission with overdrive is optional.
Yeah it is a 4sp auto

the chances are that if the c32 is in the wrong gear or rpm range, its over.

The torque of the GTO would make it easier to get it moving from a roll and probably take the early jump.

As far the C55, the torque is almost the same, since the C55 weighs lighter. HP is almost a toss us as well, since weight is in the C55's favor..

400/395 38xxlbs
362/376 35xxlbs

Definately the C55 and the GTO is a toss us SALAD.

GTO and C32... C32 needs the jump to stay ahead.

I have never raced a 5.7 or 6.0, since I know most of them will either have a exhaust, headers, intake or some sort of combo mod.

From a dig C32/C55 probably can get a jump (easier to launch). Wheel spin would be hard to rein in for the GTO.

I would not race a 6.0 in my C32, since I think the GTO 6.0 has a power advantage that my stock C32 can not make up. I need a pulley and ECU and maybe I'll try it when given the chance.

Ah, but you seem to overlook the magic of a close race which you lose. Are we to understand that you only race when you are sure that you will win?

I will pull the trigger if called upon..

like a self defense mechanism..

i'm not a offensive driver... however if a punk with an M3, STI, EVO, GTO, Mustang cuts me off or performs an insulting manuver like a fly or driving 3"s from my ***, then by all mean IT IS A GO.

I don't really think a GTO has been rude to me while driving and I don't want to be looked like a ***** with a C32, therefore I don't start the race either.

I think that is what I really was trying to say on my ealier post. I don't have the horsepower to start something, but i have enough to be ready just in case.

so NO, i'm not scared of a race witha GTO and I just dont race a cars i know I can beat.

What can I say? It was dead even the whole way. End of story. I think these cars are closer than everyone thinks. Paper just doesn't tell the tale as does throwing the hammer down when you're side by side.

I raced a friend of mine from a stoplight, who has an 03 with the 350 hp engine in it. We were pretty close off the line, but i was 3-4 lengths ahead when i stopped around 95. That being said i would think the 400 hp version would be slightly faster than a C32, but slightly slower than a C55.
