Full SL 55 Intake

Hye all, I tracked down a thread about the full SL Intake mod and went to my dealer with this basic information:

Full sl intake

1130941682 $ 7.00 Hose Inlet #1
1130941782 $ 6.75 Hose Inlet #2
1130900601 $ 98.00 Airbox #1
1130900501 $ 98.00 Airbox #2
1130940103 $ 44.00 Y-Connector
1130942382 $ 7.00 Hose
1130942482 $ 7.00 Hose
1130100967 $ 67.00 SL55 front engine cover

front engine cover part number # was 113-010-09-67.

car reference
2003 SL55

VIN WDBSK74F13F036547

And they quoted me this:

Where are people getting those nearly 1/2 price parts Is my first information just old? Also, anyone have a good source for the SL green filters?

Any guidance appreciated

It's pretty much a direct bolt on. Also, after posting this, found a kit on Evosport for less than half my dealership quote...still have to check and see if it's the same parts or what.

Anyone know anything?

Half price is good news.

Anyone know if the evo kit is the same as the stealer?

Call another dealer. The referenc prices are mine after getting the shop discount. But I believe that was 20% off not 50%.

The evosport is only the sl55 splitter it does not come with new airboxes etc. That is why it is half the price.

I don't know if we're talking about the same thing. The evosport - AMG SL55 Intake Modification Kit - W203 C32 (EVO.PER.M03.I01) is $225. The splitter from the dealer is only $44. I would think the evosport one would be in the same realm of the dealership cost unless it included more than just the splitter?

Anyone know?

Thanks,

Bif

I called them and asked them and its only the splitter thats why I got the whole thing from the dealer. I think they modified the splitter so its direct bolt on for the c32 whereas if you just buy the splitter from the dealer you need to cut the airbox a little to make it fit or something. Call Evosport and ask them exactly whats in the kit
Cheers

did all that with a c32 and I honestly dont think the boxs did anything for power. the y pipe is what helps the air flow but the boxs really seem to just be over kill. Plus they dont fit on the car all that well. I mean they fit but if you have the SL55 piping for the airboxes (in the back) the pipe will barely fit between the y pipe and the firewall.

I would skip the box's and just do the pipe looking back.

Agree. On a stock car full air boxes are not worth a lot of power. On Stage II car there is about 10HP gain total from full airboxes and Green filters.

2 questions. First, how long would it take to swap the whole system ? I've read someone said it would take 15 minutes but that seems a little too short. I need to arrange my schedule.

Second, assuming those aren't Andy_Cyp's pics, what kind of cutting and dremel job do we have to do on the SL55 engine cover ? Does anyone care to elaborate ? Blando? Pierre? Bif? Thanks !

I have not done this mod yet so I don't have any advice there - I'm going to do the y-piece and green filters and see what (if anything) happens. It's mostly just to have some mods to do as I get experience wrenching around the engine, etc...

Search around, somewhere is a post that goes into exactly what modifications you need to do to the SL engine cover to get it to fit - it wasn't major, and it never did look quite right to me.

These are the threads I've saved under my Favorites, and I couldn't find a specific discussion about SL55 engine cover mods.

The shop did mine in about 60 minutes but they had all the right tools and experience. There is some cutting to fit around the oil cap and to trim the intakes. You need to be careful with the new intakes as it is far easier to suck in water...

As for the cover, I did that myself through trial and error and it took a few hours to get it on in an acceptable manner. There are no instructions out there for that part of the project...

Thanks blando. Looks like it'll be pretty self explanatory once I see it in person. I've been reading and studying about this modification, but there's a couple of things that made me anxious:
https://mbworld.org/forums/showpost....8&postcount=16
and
https://mbworld.org/forums/showpost....6&postcount=23

The pics are no longer there, so it's hard to imagine what he was talking about. If you saved the pics that he posted, would you mind sharing them with me ? Thanks.

I can tell you right now what didn't look quite right. Take a look at the picture below. There's nothing we can do about it since what we have is a V6 instead of V8 on SL55. The position of the supercharger also contributes to the misalignment of the engine cover.

I also used my own engine cover, since the 55 one wouldnt fit properly then why bother, so i adjusted the original to fit, better than nothing imho.

Ive got 7/8 pics of the orinal post by pierre for the intake mod so anybody who wants them drop me a pm with an email addy

Andy I still have the pictures you emailed me a while ago. But I don’t have the ones from the two pages I mentioned above (post #21). Would you mind checking if you have those? Thanks a lot.
