More power

So I am very new to this site and also a very new proud owner of a 02 c32. I had a couple of questions to ask about alittle extra power. When I was reading some of the threads I see you guys talking about sl55 splitter. WHat is this and where could i get one. Also what about the resonator i see people talking about removing that. What will this do for me and how hard is it to do. Oh ya what will green filters do for me and where could i get them at.

Thanks

I'm not sure what the splitter is; although it may relate to the air intake.

I doubt that there is much you could do to gain HP, short of giving a tuner $5,000. The exhaust system seems fairly unrestricted (noisy) and I personally could not live with a noisier car on a day-to-day basis. I doubt that there would be much improvement by opening up the exhaust.

Unlike my old Audi (twin turbo 2.7T), nobody makes simple software tweeks to get more boost. I was able to add 60HP to my Audi with a $500 chip. There are no such upgrades for our cars. The good news is that they do not need it.

I've also got 18 months of warranty left, and I do not want to void it.

Magnecor wires/Denso Iridium plugs
SL55 splitter
K&N filters
50% mix 100 octane

So i was wondering what it was.

the SL55 Splitter is the intake from the SL55 that goes from the air boxes to the throttle body...it is a bigger intake for better flow

Resonator is located in your exhuast, removing it a replacing it with a straight pipe will give you better flow...

Green Filters are high-FLOW (hope you are catching on to that word by now) air filters....

Must-do mods:

Replace stock battery with Optima (drops 33 lbs): $100.00

Remove resonator (drops 10 lbs, adds few HP, very little exhaust noise change: $50.00

Short of going with pulley and ECU (for $3,000), try wires, plugs, filters, and SL55 splitter (which is the intake air housing splitter behind and on top of the engine which connects the airboxes housing the filters). All those mods will run you less than $1,000.00, and should get you some good improvements.

35 or 35r, I don't remember which (get the one that maintains the post positioning of the stock battery). You can also go more aggressive. . . Optima makes batteries which would probably work which weigh 25 lbs. I chose the 35 because it is lighter than stock and still exceeds the specs of the stock battery. The only issue with the install is that the Optima is physically not nearly as long, which means that it would slide around in the battery box, unless you fill the void up with something (I cut a piece of an old Boogie Board and spray painted it black). Check out Batteriesplus.com, they have a lot of choices for replacement batteries.

I had mine done by Evosport, so I am not sure exactly what is needed. There have been threads dealing with part numbers and everything. . . try a search. If you don't find anything, start a new thread "Anyone have part numbers/installation tips on SL55 splitter?"

FYI: if you order the SL55 Intake Splitter from evosport.com, it comes with the green filters....they don't tell you that on the website, i found that out after i called to find out why it was taking so long and they told me they were waiting on the green filters that were on back order...

You can get the splitter from your local m-benz dealer or from evosport. If you go to the dealer ask for:
# 113-094-01-03 splitter
# 113-094-23-82 hose for splitter
# 113-094-24-82 Hose for splitter
Four hose clamps
Also Note: That this is Not a bolt on mod. As you will need to slit the hose going to the airboxes. If you order it from evosport you can just bolt it on, as they include hose adapters that fit over the stock airboxes.

Do a search under SL55 intake, and you will find alot more information. Part numbers for sl55 airboxes etc.. Good liuck

well, i hang out with a lot of different groups around houston because of the different cars that i have owned over the years...here are the sites i have a membership on, you can go the appropriate section to find out about what is going on around houston:

houstonperformancedriving.com

evolutionm.net

srtforums.com

msprotege.com

i am currently hanging out mostly with the guys from HPD, because they are not single car specific and most of them are more mature, experienced drivers...if you want to become a member over there, just use me as a reference, i have the same screen name there...
