Check Engine Light, What to Do?

No modifications done, haven't even popped the hood up but the "Check Engine" light came on while I was driving home.

No Messages on the center display and no noticeable performance degradation...so do I just keep driving until it goes off or just bring it to the dealer and have to hack at it?

well, MB roadside will tell you to first check the gas cap to see if it is on tight. if it is (which is most likely), just bring it to the dealer...

Yeah, I know what that means...1 week to get an appt., then 1 hour to wait to see an SA, then 1 day to response to say, ah we restarted your engine and the light went away...so you're good to go (that's what they said when they saw the CDC Error).

Btw, any recommendations on a good SA in the Bay Area, Sf to San jose that knows what AMG stands for.

I goes to SF Mercedes, the dealer is very good. The trick is to find a frinedly SA and stay with the same person. As you get to know him/her, so he/she will go the extra miles to take care of your car for you.

or you can rent a code reader at autozone and see what the code is, if its just the gas cap you can reset it yourself and you wont have to take it to the dealer

I go to Smythe European in Santa Clara, the last service rep I had there was very helpful (saved me $1200), I'll PM you his details if you are interested.

I've taken my car to Smythe (bad experience), Beshoff (bad experience), MB of Fresno (so-so), and Autobahn Motors (excellent). Since I live in Fresno, I'll take my car to MB of Fresno for minor warranty issues, but for services and major issues I'll only go to Autobahn. David Sands is my SA there and is very easy to deal with.

EDIT: And I've always been able to make next day appointments at Autobahn, so I don't see any reason why it should take a week to get an appointment.
