clk55 cluster in a c32?

Well I have a 2002 CLK55 AMG cluster and I want to put it in my C32 as I dont like the cluster in the C32.

The plugs are the same and the cluster fits snug exactly the same as the C32 one - but whats the likelihood of it working?

Would the speedo show the correct speed? and would my local MB dealer be able to program the milage etc?

I have searched the forums but there seems to be no answer - so does anyone know ? STEVE maybe?

PM Sunil.

As far as I know, if the CLK cluster has more than 1000 miles, it won't work.

Check the W203 C-Class forum. There are a few answers for you over there.

Steve is the only one that i know of that can have the programming done for the mileage in the cluster...everything else can be done by someone with developer/programming mode via the Star Diagnostic System...

///AMG4EVER is waiting on his CLK55 cluster to returned from Steve right now...you can PM him for more details

If it has more than 1000 miles it won't work, even with the development STAR. If it has less than 1000 miles, Steve or Sunil can do it.

Don't turn your car on with the other cluster if it has more than 1000 miles.

Just out of morbid curiosity, what would happen if he turned his car on in this case?

My understanding is the way cars are today, especially highly complex German cars, it's very difficult to retrofit parts to them -- even things like cruise control.

Hi

Hi,

The CLK cluster will fit, its the same dash if you look !!

Plus, mercedes wont re-programme the mileage, as it is never required to do so, but the digital mileage readouts are powered by the ECU anyway, so all you need to do is take it to an auto electrician (independant) and they will re-programme the mileage for you, should cost you no more that $100 !!

I must say though, i dont like C32 cluster, but changing it is a bit extreme??

Any way, good luck and hope this helps !!

It's not so simple. The cluster is not a direct fit. You have to change the support bracket behind the cluster, which requires disassembling about half of the vehicle interior. The CLK bracket will also have to be modified. Even after that, it still won't sit perfectly.

You'll need STAR to reprogram the new cluster for parameters and mileage.

Ive taken out the C32 cluster and the CLK55 cluster fits in perfectly - even teh plug fits - but I havnt turned the car on after being warned not to by other members here - not been told what will happen if I do turn it on though

if its just having the milage programmed in then great im happy but I just dont seem to be getting a definate answer. ANYONE? Do we have any MB techs on here at all?

Yes, the plug fits, but the cluster itself will not sit properly. You need the support bracket. Trust me, I have a CLK cluster in my C32.

Does your cluster have less than 1000 miles on it?

All of the vehicle parameters need to be programed through star (gas tank, etc).

Here are the PNs:

Cluster - 209-540-33-11
Cluster Bracket – 209-680-00-34

Here is what you need to read before turning your car on.

I dont know what cluster you had in yours but mine is a totally different number : A 209 540 78 11 - it was twice the price your cluster came up at on www.mercedes-benz-parts.co.uk !

So now im wondering if we are talking about the same cluster as the one I have fits perfectly! sits correctly too and plug is the same.

Im just too chicken to plug it in and see what the damage is

Im guessing ill take it into my local MB dealer and see if they are willing to program it if I pay them for their labour!

LOL! No one knows. A total wives' tale. All kidding aside, I heard the headlights will flash, the horn will honk, and the COMAND will blare "ROLLBACK ROLLBACK ROLLBACK" until you get it reset at the dealer.

The CLK55 AMG cluster costs about double because it is an AMG part and has the little AMG logo. I wanted to get that one but couldn't justify an extra $1000 just for a tiny AMG decal. I have a normal CLK cluster.

The AMG and non-AMG CLK clusters are the same size. Neither fits perfectly and both need the bracket changed.

No. They work on completely different protocols.

The CLK cluster is better than the C55 cluster anyways.

Thats a shame about the C55 cluster cause even that is better than the C32 one IMO.

Anyway - my car is due to go into MB soon and I get on real well with the tech guys there so im gonna ask then to install it for me - pay them the labour - and see what happens. If its just a matter of programming then I guess im looking at an hours charge there - the bracket needed - well I dont know on that score but my main concern at the moment os getting the cluster working - to be honest as long as they get it working I can fit teh bracket myself when I get back home maybe.

Anyway - we'll see what they say

I've asked several times on the thread and through PM

If you didn't buy it new, it obviously has more than 1000 miles on it and is useless. I really doubt it came our of a CLK55 that had less than 1000 miles on it.
