"Visit ESP Workshop"

That is what will periodically come up on my display. when it does the car goes into saftey mode and will not accelerate faster than 5mph. I can stop the car, and restart and it will go back to normal. But does anybody know what is causing this, and/or how to fix it. Thanks

Something serious enough to put your car in limp mode, must
be a ignition or a sensitive sensor gone bad. I can assume you
have a Check Engine light on right? Get a OBD2 scanner and
pull out the fault code.

I had this problem. It started as a high RPM Idle at startup (1500-2000) if I hit the gas it went higher and stayed there. when I restarted the car, it was fine. After driving a block, it lost all power and felt like a misfire was present and the car would not accelerate even at full throttle. That same message came up on the dash. As luck would have it, every time I dropped it off at the dealer it went away! they eventually kept it for a few days and found it to be the Throttle Actuator that was malfunctioning. Replaced under warranty.

Yes any generic obd2 scanner works. i went to a discount
autopart and tried their unit, it worked, so I remembered the
part # and make and went to ebay and amazon.

go to Amazon and type in OBD2 scanner. tons of stuff there.

is it that one? if so whatever fault code pops up you can yahoo
or google it, if not post it and I'll look it up in m OBD2 book.

actually that unit you bought is suppose to come with a
reference chart for the codes that will pop up.

I had the "ESP Visit Workshop" sign on last week, brought it to a shop and I was told it was the problem with the Rack & Pinion. The car was lifted on the hoist and the whole Rack & Pinion was loose due to broken bearings.

The technician said the car was not able to go to the direction it should go with the preset calibrations of the steering causing the computer to read wrong figures during driving.

You need to bring it to the shop at once, if this is the case, you might lose your steering. Pls note that the Rack & Pinion is very very expensive

An OBD2 scanner will give you the OBD2 code/reason, but a MB Star computer will still provide a much more detailed description of the fault.

That happened with my car. My service advisor said that ESP was burn out from having it engage too much . They replaced the whole ESP unit.

I actually found out that it was because I was jumping on the throttle before the ESP had a chance to run thru its full diagnostics (about 2 min.) I know wait before jumping on it. I have nor had any problems since. I was told that it will self clear the ECU after 45 key turns.

Or you could do the manual ECU reset process in 5 to 7 seconds and be done with it now. Your choice.

ECU reset:

1- insert key in ignition, turn to 2nd position, do not start car.
2- depress accelerator to the maximum point and hold for at least 5 seconds.
3- turn ignition off while holding accelerator down. Then release the pedal.
4- (I do not think this step is nessesary) Wait 2 minutes before starting your car.
5- watch your ESP (triangular) warning light flicker for 200 yards as you spin the rears.

This process can be done as often as you wish without any problems.
