I thought that the 6.3 was there to introduce AMG's first completely original engine. If it doesn't have any special meaing, then why can't 300s and 550s, put a 5.0 MBZ or 3.0 MBZ badge in the same location?
Originally that location was to specify special option packages, like 'sportline' or 'sport' etectera, but it got washed out when they started putting 'deluxe' and 'comfort' badges in that location, and that's why it hasn't been used in a long time.

Seems to me only a few US AMG's don't have badges...even the Euro W210 has an AMG badge on the fender trim? The W211 E55 has a V8 Compressor badge on the fender. I don't get your point..so we put the correct badge on our cars that represent the engine we have. Now if NO AMG's had badges in that location, then I might agree with you. To me it's just giving the car an updated and modern look of the new AMG's. I've never seen an engine badge on the fender of none AMG's..that's why sticking a badge on a 300,320,550,500,380,280,190.....and so on wouldn't cut it. But again, EVERY newer AMG has a badge on the fender and even some of the older Euro models do.

Non AMGs have other badges in that location, like i pointed out earlier, but if you are not putting a 'period' badge on and are instead adding a badge that the car didn't come with, why can't non-AMGs do that as well? Can't they use the same reasoning? [since some MBs have badges there, and you guys aren't sticking to what the factory chose to install, why do they have to?]

The SLK 55 is a current AMG car and it doesn't have a badge there. That fender badge is AMG-63 specific.

Here are some photos of the 5.5 badge on my car. I think it looks great with the new Euroteck CF Lip. The business envelope trick suggested above works well to line up the badge 1/2 inch from door seam.

the follow-on C-Class Coupes had "1.8" on the fender
some of the older C-Class Coupe owners went back and put "2.3" badges on to show the difference between the M271 and M111 engines.
so there are precedents out there for non-AMG cars to have engine fender badges.
