C55 First Mod: Chrome Shift Knob

Thanks to HeirKranz for hooking me up with a chrome Schätz shift knob. I put this puppy in today--takes all of 10 minutes--to replace the tall and way-too-light feeling stock AMG leather knob. I had a similar one on my C350 7G-Tronic and loved it. I like the heavy weight and solid, quick shift action in M and S manumatic modes. And the chrome almost goes with the brushed aluminum interior of the C55. What do you think?

And a couple more ...

Nice choice in knobs. I swapped out my cheesy stock knob for a Schatz last year too. Since the C32 has the fake CF look, I went for this knob. I got a smokin' deal on it. $35 shipped.

Here are some shots of my OEM AMG performance (030) PKG shift Knob.

It wasn't easy to get......it finally arrived a few weeks ago.

Thanks MNG for your help in tracking this down.

I know what you mean. I tried for over 2 years to get a handle on one and MNG on this forum finally hooked me up through his contacts in Germany. WAY TOO EXPENSIVE!!! It was over $500 but after searching for that long money wasn't a concern. Its basically the same build as stock but in a premium leather and a really fine engraved AMG emblem on top. It was definitely worth the wait and I have convinced myself ....worth the cash.

Yeah, a really good one is big bucks. These Schätz pieces are pretty good. Nice weight and solid. Real easy to install. I've bought two but always paid well under $100. Here's their website. The one I got this time was the W202 version without the chrome flange at the bottom (top right one in the pic below) but I kinda like the way this style fits.

And check out the dark birdseye maple one! That would be the schit if you had a birdseye interior!!! I came VERY close to buying a Barolo Red 2007 C350 Sport from San Rafael MB with the birdseye interior and a matching one of these would have really hooke dit up.

Thanks ...Very familiar with Schatz and all their products but had a quest for a REALLY nice and unique Shift Knob. I started with Kleemann 3 years ago this month and they were going to do one for me but it was like $750 + the cost of an OEM knob. That was for a CF job though. In the end they backed out but i was hooked. Then saw the OEM 030 knob on this forum in some shots Walter took at the AMG performance center. He turned me on to Axel the MGr there and the hunt was on......2 years later MNG came through with the goods. OEM install is very easy as well Pop the boot, undo the lock nut and ease off the knob. Couldn't be easier.

This sounds like how I go about mods like this. I get the bug--see a pic or something--and I start hunting. Then it gets bad and I am scouring the web and shops and Ebay. Once I get bit, I gotta get it done and done just right. Can't stop 'til I find just the right part at the right price. I think that's what makes modding and tinkering on my cars and bikes so much fun as a hobby. You get the mental picture of where you want to get and you start putting it all together piece by piece. And each one is adventure, at least with me.

+1. Similar timeframe, similar expense except I visited the AMG factory no less than 3 times to accomplish getting this same shift knob. I just recently got the matching door pins, but that was a much easier process.

You are absolutely correct, the expense is secondary, it is a work of art.

Glad to see there is another out there in North America. I don't think there are many more....

Note on the first page of the Avante garde shift knobs section says:

"There are no parts available for your 2006 C55 . You can select a different vehicle or search for a different product. "

try pasting THAT into the browser. It's from the schatz page, after searching under W203-Lim, T which I think is C55. It LOOKS like birdseye maple but iut's all in German and the translator in Google doesn't seem to help this deep into the web site.

Any translators out there?

+1. It took a lot of effort to get this shiftknob. I wonder why. This is my story:
