C32 Amg Reliability?

Head some rumors that the C32 amg is not so reliable engine wise ?
here in south africa alot of them has had engines blowing up on them , whats the feel over in the states ?

I was advised to rather look at the C55 , but i almost feel that the 32 has more power potential with small upgrades .. am i correct? seeing as there is only 15Hp or so between them ... although the torque difference would be insane!

thanx

There are issues but never heard of them blowing up. The issues are mostly non power train based.

engine is like a tank

and transmission can handle as much torque as you need

the only issues are related to the kompressor clutch, pulleys, electrical and emission items (air pump)

also some suspension squeaks from the sway bars.

If you like to work on cars or have a mechanic that has a general education in mechanics.. will be able to fix your problems.

As stated above... built like a tank. Low compression engines usually last longer anyway. Not to say the C55 is high strung or anything, but I would think it would have more problems than the 32.

The IC pump tends to go out every 2-4 years or so, but its a pretty easy fix.

Actually the C32s don't have that many engine reliability problems at all. Some of the earlier models have had the famous Valeo radiator that caused contamination, but was still a relatively easy fix (if caught before contamination of course). And as others have mentioned, the IC pump does tend to fail frequently (which is another easy fix), but other than that, it stays pretty reliable. I've never heard of any C32 on this forum having an engine "blowing-up". I've owned my C32 for almost 4 years (2 years stock and 2 years with Stage 2 mods), and never had any major problems (except changing the IC pump every year or so of course ), and I've tracked that car a lot by the way . Vadim's C32 Stage 2 has almost 160,000 miles, and is still running strong...... Yes, the C55 will probably be a little more reliable than the C32, but also more expensive and harder to mod.

The AMG engines are generally built very well. They are very high quality, very strong, will last a long time, and will take a lot of abuse and come out it asking for more

Yeah, like every one has stated before, the engine is solid in the car. The main problems with the car are the elctronic components. That is to be expected considering how many electronic gadgets the vehicle has. I would buy it with a warranty if possible, will save you some money in the long run.

In my opion there are some enginering or I would say parts flaws. They have been all figured out for the most part. I had the Glycol in the trany, wheel bearing go bad, front sway bar bushing make tons of noise, replaced control arms at 60k miles. Oh and ic pump, air pump, brake issues. You name it. but most all was taken care of under warranty. But I love my car. I really love it. I am so hard on this car, and it's should be driven hard. I can't stand seeing 55+ females driving s65, e63, and cls 63's all over O.C. I could be wrong but if they really got on it they would scare themselves and everyone else on the road. Only had an electrical driver mirror control issue. I'm buying the new c63 after it's been out for a few months and there will probably be issues with that, but I'm a Mercedes fan thru and thur and willing to endure some shop visits. And thank you for those of you on this board who have helped me thur the years with my Amg. you know who you are.

Hey dude, I am in Saffa and have a 2003 C32. Never heard of them blowing up, but find a straight one, they cost and arm and a leg to repair through merc thanks to the staggered motorplan.

****ing awesome to drive though and having driven my fair share of E46's, they are light years ahead of those too.

I have mine in Titan Red, or Bordeaux Red ( dealer can't seem to tell which from the vin) Absolutely beautiful color for the AMG! I'm dying to make my sig and avatar to show it off, I'm just having a hell of a time sizing it right and displaying it. I wonder what program you guys are using to create them. I've also seen one a while ago in Mars red, HOT!!

The one big mechanical problem I had was the differential going out. It was covered though, but still it was a problem. However no issues whatsoever with the engine.

my service advisor told me stay away from the c32, but that the c55 has been relatively less troublesome.

i dunno why anyone would have an AMG without a warranty, but that's just me.

I definitely recommend warranty unless most of the common issues have been addressed....C32 and C55 are similar in design the C55 has less reliabillity issues I heard of but is costlier to mod compared to C32. The issues that are on the C32 can be mostly done by yourself. I have had my C32 about a year in a half and it visited the Dealer about 6 times but nothing the warranty didn't cover. Its going back in for two more common issues real soon. The issues are mostly non-engine related and you can buy alternatives cheap and just do work yourself.
