I need help and/or advice on a C32 and an extended warranty...

Here's the deal. I am about to pull the trigger on an 02 C32 w/ 87,000 miles on the clock. I am buying it sight unseen, except pictures, because it is 750 miles away. The car is costing me less than $15k so I REALLY want it. My question is what is a good extended service warranty company? I would like to hear from the guys with practical claim experience. I don't mind paying $3000 for a warranty that will actually be "hassle free". I plan on keeping the car to at least the 150,000 mile mark so I want the piece of mind knowing that I won't have to shell out $3000 for the AC compressor then 2 months later pay $9000 for a radiator leaking into my tranny.

PS. Yes I have searched. There is good info out there but I really want to hear from the guys/gals that have purchased the warranty and had to use it.

Thanks,
Chris

I would recommend going to your local dealership to discuss about the extended warranty. Since you will be going to them for services, it would be best to choose a company that they honor.

87,000 is quite a bit of miles. You sure you don't want to move closer to $20 and get something with better mileage? For a few thousand you may be able to get significantly less miles. just a thought.

So my warranty just ran out a couple of days ago and I have 92k on my car. I asked my service advisor if he knew a company that would warrant me and he told me that if they do not see a profit in it, then they most likely will not. Most warranty companies want to warrant your vehicle up to 100k miles and after that they think the car will have more things that will go wrong with it, so in turn it's not a good investment for them. I have had lots of warranty companies calling me to sell me their warranties, but they only want to warrant the vehicle up to 100k miles.

I definitely would like to find a warranty that will extend all the way to 150k miles, I just don't see that happening. If you find one, let me know, I want one too. The starmarked warranty that came with my car was a god send, I had so many electrical problems and I got a lot of other things covered as well. Probably would have cost me about 5k+ in parts in labor out of pocket.

+1. I see little to no chance that you'll find a warranty worth having. At that age/mileage they are either going to charge a fortune, or they will nickel and dime you on EVERY repair. The only no-hassle warranties in existence are from manufacturers. Everything else is a crapshoot.

Hey chris:

I just bought mine yesterday at Bobby Rahal Mercedes dealer for $1200.0 for 3 years or 50,000 miles. Bumper to bumber, $0 deductable as my warrenty was up on 4/8/08. It isn't a Mercedes warrenty, however it is GOOD at ANY Mercedes dealer for work. The price VARIES greatly, according to miles, however since I only have 19500 on her, after 4 years, I figured I was safe. On a side note 3 years 100,000 was only $2800.00. I guess what I am saying is go to a Mercedes dealer and see what they have to offer. It was a good deal, IMHO.

Hope it helped

See yeah

A lot of places are not going to want to warranty a higher mileage car. If you do find one it's most likely to be really expensive for any good aftermarket companies. Good luck, and I hope you find something.

Update:

I ended up getting the car for $14000. The warranty I ended up getting is through my Credit Union (CANU). Its called the MRC Reflections package: Gold. It cost me $3000 and I have a $100 deductible and it is good for 3yrs / 36000. It covers everything but paint/body/structure.

SO.....I got a C32 with a warranty until 126,000 miles from a reputable company for $17000.

I am flying to georgia to get it tomorrow.

I am picking mine up tomorrow (Saturday the 5th of April) , 2004 with 22 K miles and clean carfax etc in the Chicago area. Paid 24 K for it. VBlack on blk with all option cept for navi which I dont care about anyway. Looking at Brandon's performance pulley too for the supercharger (not the crank one).
