I was trying to put a couple rims and tires together for the track and ended up ordering some 16'' Enkei OR-52's(16 lbs) and the Nitto's for the rear. I couldn't believe how much heavier the Bfg's were. Just wanted to share a little info.
Nitto 555R Drag radials 245/50/16 25.6 lbs

The best dr's for the drag strip are hoosiers, but not for everyday driving. Very, very soft for great 60' times.

Good to know since I ordered two in 245/17 555Rs for the drag session on the 12th.

I just picked up my C55 yesterday and I am already considering a drag rad of some type. Has anyone tried the Nitto 555R2's for DD and track? They are supposed to have a thicker side wall for auto-x.
Second- I am coming from a past of cars with glass rear-ends. Will the C55 in stock form hold up with some heavy launching on DR's?
Thanx!

If a Stage 3 C32 can then a stock C55 can also.Originally Posted by folex187

hoosiers are the way to go. nittos are ok if they are going to be on the car on the street and the track but once you put some power to some nittos they arent that great
Hoosier's are a great tire! They actually weigh in at 22 lbs for the 255/50/16.
I will be driving back and forth to the track(60 miles) so I didnt think the Hoosiers were a good chioce for me. Hey Mustang281man, I am loving the pullies, I can feel a noticable difference in the car. Thanks again.

The BFGs are awsome so long as you can get the biggest sidewall that will fit. I ran the BFG radial tire class in the NDRA for two years. If they work on a 1300hp supra running 8.10s they should hold a C55 pretty well

The Nitto's are by far the best for daily usage. I ran them on my Z28 for 5+ years, and they handled just fine, and were good in the rain as long as they still had tread. Once the middle tread is gone they'll hydroplane like any other tire would. I also was able to cut a 1.60 60' time on an 11.43 pass with them. Typically I could get about 8,000 miles out of a set w/ a few track visits in between.
The BFG drag radial is by far a better traction tire than the Nitto for the drag strip, but it's not good in the rain, and you'll only get about 5,000 miles out of it per the softer composition.
The new Mickey Thompson drag radial is the absolute best of any of them for traction purposes, as there are 9-second cars using them w/ no problem. However, you'd never want to have them on a wet road, as they have virtually no tread at all. In essence they are a racing slick w/ a few grooves cut into them --- just enough to be considered D.O.T. approved. In reality they are a track-only tire, or a Saturday eve cruising tire in dry weather.
Now, unless you plan on doing some monsterous mods to your C55, the Nitto would be more than adequate for traction on the street and track. Like I said, I cut 1.60's with mine and I was hitting them w/ 441 rwhp and 448 rwtq. They are by far the best option for a daily driven tire. If you plan on modding enough to be even a mid-12 second 1/4 mile car, these will be all you need. Heck, I have a friend who runs the Michelin PS2's on his C55, and he can barely break them loose on dry concrete, so a Nitto DR would easily cover your needs.
