06' C55, what's my car worth? PCar bug has bitten me hard

Hey guys, I am really trying to resist buying a Pcar but the original idea was to keep the car for four years and then buy a Porsche. Unfortunately I want it sooner. I'll have to trade my car or sell it for a Porsche.

What do you think my cars worth?

2006 Mercedes Benz C55 AMG
5.4L V8
28,000 miles and under warranty
Lighting Package
Premium Package
Black/Black with Birdseye Maple
Comand Navigation
Sirius
Ipod
Bluetooth

Any suggestions?

Sean

You can probably get the $31k for yours if you sell private and don't trade in. When I started looking, which was only 6 months ago, they were in that range. Roughly $28-$32k on private sales for similar cars.

If possible though definitely do a private sell instead of a trade in and you'll get more value.

I'm talking private sale and not from a stealership. There's one with 30k miles on ebay right now with a buy-it-now of $35.9k so I don't think I'm far off the mark on my estimate.

Either way you can get 05's with sub 20k miles for under $30k.

In mid-January, I got $33k for my '06 S4 with 23,000miles from the Audi dealership where I bought it. No trade, straight sale. It didn't even have navi so I would've thought a loaded C55 with just 8k would fetch more than 31k.

Not that its any of my business, BUT I had a Boxster S and wouldnt give a plum nickel for any Porsche save the TT, II or III. Can you say Volkswagen with style?? Your C55 is as quick as a 911, more reliable and easier and cheaper to repair. Talk about dropping like a rock too in value. Us C32/55 guys have nothing on Porsches. But hey, who's asking me???

I also bought my '06 C55 in January It had 5700 miles on the odo--everything except ipod, sirius and bluetooth. I paid $42K. I paid on the high end, but I was happy to as I bought from a forum member who I was confident took very good care of the car--and it wasn't titled until Oct of 2006, so I had the bulk of the factory warranty on it.

Either way, I would agree that you should be able to get mid $30's, but these cars are hard to sell privately--niche product.

Personally, I would keep the AMG and save up for just the right mind-blowing Pcar.

I have no clue what you guys are talking about in saying that you'd only hold out for a GT3, GT2 or TT...

A 997 C2S or C4S (even if it's not an '09) would still blow a C55 out of the water. The weight distribution, better tranny, handling ability and much lighter chassis make it waaaaay more fun than any non-Kompressor AMG and dare I say 63. I test drove a 2008 911 C2S back to back with a C63 AMG and I gotta say that I was waaaaaaaay more impressed by the 911. The only thing that the C63 outshined the 911 on was braking--the standard brakes on the 911 C2S were nothing close to the standard AMG brakes.

Go for it man! My only advice would be to wait for the 2009's. The Carrera S (and even the non-S) models will be getting a bump in power as well as amenities.

I did the exact opposite move that you are proposing. Sold my black 911 C2 for my white 06 C55. I paid 33,5 for the C55 w/ CPO and 34k miles a couple months ago. I am *much* happier with the 55.

And on to the commentary about the turbo / GT cars. I agree. Having spent 10k on a motor for the Pcar I would not buy another unless it was a GT3/Turbo because the motors are totally different between the standard cars and the GT/Turbo cars. My motor failed as a result of what apears to have been a broken valve spring on the number 2 cylinder while I was 400 miles from home. Not a happy camper. Problem is that the costs in labor of removing and repair and replacing were very close to just a total replacement.

Don't get me wrong, I loved my Pcar but it is nowhere near as nice of a DD as the C55, the Porsche dealers are by and large a bunch of a-holes (yes even worse than the Mercedes stories ... by way of illustration my local dealer wanted 18k to replace the motor saying that it was 40 hours of labor to remove and replace the motor .... when I knew that book was 12 hours *and* the dealer cost on the motor was less than 7k), and the 55 is just as quick in real world (i.e. non-track) driving. The 55 also is a lot more stealth so it doesn't get the a-holes in the Civic wanting to race all the time. Oh, and resale is very poor on the 911's due to repeated stories of catastrophic engine failures

Just my 2 cents but the honeymoon was over after spending 10+k on her.

I would think you would get at LEAST mid 30's for something clean. The market is in no way flooded with these.

Thou I am mainly a fan of the TT, GT2/3 and Carerra GT...I in no way would use such a car thats built more for tracks Xcross etc...as a daily driver even the lessor Pcars...and it would take a hell of alot for our cars to handle like them also. Everyone has there preference so I say I hope you find a good price for that beautiful car and get your desired car now...nothing worse then admiring one when you could be driving one. Good luck Slowery! Post pics and give us reviews of it...
