If possible though definitely do a private sell instead of a trade in and you'll get more value.

Either way you can get 05's with sub 20k miles for under $30k.

Not that its any of my business, BUT I had a Boxster S and wouldnt give a plum nickel for any Porsche save the TT, II or III. Can you say Volkswagen with style?? Your C55 is as quick as a 911, more reliable and easier and cheaper to repair. Talk about dropping like a rock too in value. Us C32/55 guys have nothing on Porsches. But hey, who's asking me???
Either way, I would agree that you should be able to get mid $30's, but these cars are hard to sell privately--niche product.

A 997 C2S or C4S (even if it's not an '09) would still blow a C55 out of the water. The weight distribution, better tranny, handling ability and much lighter chassis make it waaaaay more fun than any non-Kompressor AMG and dare I say 63. I test drove a 2008 911 C2S back to back with a C63 AMG and I gotta say that I was waaaaaaaay more impressed by the 911. The only thing that the C63 outshined the 911 on was braking--the standard brakes on the 911 C2S were nothing close to the standard AMG brakes.
Go for it man! My only advice would be to wait for the 2009's. The Carrera S (and even the non-S) models will be getting a bump in power as well as amenities.
And on to the commentary about the turbo / GT cars. I agree. Having spent 10k on a motor for the Pcar I would not buy another unless it was a GT3/Turbo because the motors are totally different between the standard cars and the GT/Turbo cars. My motor failed as a result of what apears to have been a broken valve spring on the number 2 cylinder while I was 400 miles from home. Not a happy camper. Problem is that the costs in labor of removing and repair and replacing were very close to just a total replacement.
Don't get me wrong, I loved my Pcar but it is nowhere near as nice of a DD as the C55, the Porsche dealers are by and large a bunch of a-holes (yes even worse than the Mercedes stories ... by way of illustration my local dealer wanted 18k to replace the motor saying that it was 40 hours of labor to remove and replace the motor .... when I knew that book was 12 hours *and* the dealer cost on the motor was less than 7k), and the 55 is just as quick in real world (i.e. non-track) driving. The 55 also is a lot more stealth so it doesn't get the a-holes in the Civic wanting to race all the time. Oh, and resale is very poor on the 911's due to repeated stories of catastrophic engine failures
Just my 2 cents but the honeymoon was over after spending 10+k on her.
06 C55 White, drove it off the lot late April 07.
5400 miles. Just did Flex A.
Loaded but no Sat.
Let me know if anyone is interested.
