Just Ordered AMS Pulley from LET! This will be my final engine mod until I get the cash up for a S/C. I got 331whp now with headers ECU, & airbox. I'm wondering what kind of wheel HP i can expect from this mod? Hoping this will be a good addition to the mods i already have cant wait to get it slap it on and show you some more dyno numbers. Maybe I will even get it this week and have dyno numbers for you too. At this point i just want some safe HP with out underdriving anything.

It does improve efficiency & power as well as mid range torque. It has similar acceleration properties to that of a lightweight flywheel, but instead of less sensation of torque, there is more.
I've heard nothing bad about it from those that have it. By all accounts, a relativly "safe" and simple mod to do...

It is "whp" but likely not "bhp" because it IS an efficiency-type mod. I.e. you should be lowering your percentage of driveline loss, due to less parasitic drag off of your pullies (because you'd now have pullies with less mass). So, you should pick up a few whp with this... but I don't think it's a lot.Originally Posted by crazeazn

hooleyboy, you might want to consider udp's at the same time - combined with the AMS pulley, you should notice an even better bump in rwhp and rwtq.
I think LET makes underdrive pullies for N/A cars - you should check with Erick, if interested. If they don't, I'm pretty sure evosport makes them for your car - so that would be an option.
Thanks for sharing all of your mod info so far - sounds like it's turning into quite a beast

I just ordered a set of them. Vadim told me they would gain about 5rwhp on a boosted C55.

Im going to stay far away from a underdrive Pulley. It gets hot here in AZ so i dont need that running the A/C weak. I'm not that hard up for HP that I want to run the risk of major crank damage, electricals not working right. there are just to many bad things that can happen that out weight the good.

just curious, how come you went w/ evo headers and not renntech.

I have two questions if somoene is kind enough to answer.
Why did you order an AMS PULLEY FROM LET, instead of just getting it straight form AMS. Btw, AMS isnt very legit, their rep is really low, they copy products from other manufacturers.
Second question. Why mod an NA? Its so expensive and the gains are so small.

Well... to each his/her own I guess, but hooleyboy's picked up 40 rwhp (291 to 331) with an ECU tune, airbox, and headers (closer to 50 rwhp if you look at the dyno w/ race fuel). Originally Posted by redfarsi

Not sure what the total cost has been, but IMHO that's a pretty decent jump in output.

Also, as far as modding N/A engines - if you think this forum is bad, DEFINITELY steer clear of any E63, C63, and CLK63BS threads!!

Not true. I picked up my Kleemann Twin-Screw for $7500 and with all the mods I kept only spent an additional $10K (brand new long tubes, cams, cats, VRP tune).Originally Posted by redfarsi

I wasted a ton of money trying to fix the HPS kit but Kleemann is awesome. I went from 387rwhp to 440rwhp just by swapping the blower!
If you can pick up some used Kleemann or Renntech headers, cams then you can probably get an additional 175bhp for about $15K! Still less than a brand new C63 and more power plus you don't take a bath on selling your C55.
hooleyboy--
Just wanted to say thanks. As a fellow C55'er, it's really enjoyable to follow you slowly modding your car and great to see the results you're getting. I've still got a bunch of warranty left, but as soon as it's up I'll most likely go down the same path you are.
Good luck and happy modding.

I voided my factory warranty after 600 miles when I dropped the HPS kit in there. If nothing major happens within 2K miles I don't think it ever will.Originally Posted by cdd

I had over 75+ dynos with a SC on it, taken the car to Willow Springs and the car still runs great. If you can find a good tuner who can repair any damage at a reasonable cost (i.e. blown motor) then go for it and don't worry about the warranty.

maybe a bad choice of words, but you're right, he's getting less slow day by day. I meant as opposed to going to Kleemann like Dragon did and just getting the whole shot done in one trip.Quote:

Yeah, I know. 9 times out of 10 I'll be fine, but I'm worried about that one time where everything goes to hell in a handbasket.Originally Posted by AMGSC

I cant even notice a difference when driving normal, and thats a good thing it strolls around town like nothing was ever done to it. them when i mash it it gets up and move like a bat out of hell. I wouldn't worry about Modding your car if its warrantied with just bolt-ons and an ECU, in fact i was getting 24mpg today on the highway (best I've seen yet in my car with A/C on in 100 degree heat) freeing up flow should never present a problem to our cars.
Also On the C63 note I strolled into Dyno-comp today to get my stock airbox back and pulling off the dyno was a C63 and it only put down 330whp!!! no joke. I wanted to take a pic of the dyno sheet but I didn't want the guy to feel bad that he only made 330whp! they flashed the ECU and the C63 picked up 40 more HP and 40tq with the software. I thought this was very low for a car that claims 451bhp. I guess you will just have to take my word for it as i didn't get a pic of the dyno run and didn't want to ask the guy if i could. needless to say I was shocked. Here is a pic of me in front of Dyno-com (not Buddy's alignment shop) with the C63

I haven't seen so much activity on the C32/C55 forum for a long time. Its a great feeling and everyone benefits!

hmm technically with those numbers u should be able to hang with a 63, given that it weighs a couple hundred lbs more... god forbid that it has better gearing.Originally Posted by hooleyboy

Yeah but a 300zx or Evo won't have the usable daily driver power/torque in the low RPM range that a C32, C55 or C63 has.Originally Posted by redfarsi

You're right - a car with 451 at the crank should be closer to 365 whp... 330's quite low. Time will tell if this particular car was weak, or if they all dyno in this range.Originally Posted by hooleyboy

I think VRP is working on the problem areas for the C63 (intake and exhaust flow issues) - theoretically, a C63 *should* be able to put down the same kind of power as the E63, if the restrictions are worked out... since the engine's identical. So, it won't be long before we're seeing lightly modded C63's putting down 440ish rwhp... that's my guess
