C32 Questions...
After looking at used W203's for almost a year (sports not AMG's), I've decided to wait around another 2 years and purchase something I really want. A C32.
I've driven a C32 before and I have to say that the drivability and the overall feel of the car far surpassed the lower horsepower 6's and 1.8 4's...
Here are my two questions to you guys...
1) Given the fact that I'm only 18 and it's a 350 hp car, I'm thinking that the cost of insurance is going to outweigh my car payments
. What do you think? 2) I'm looking to buy used but try to stay under 60K miles with a budget of rougly 20K (maybe a little more...) Do you think that the cost of the cars used will drop to around the 20K price range within my 2 year window?
Thanks,
Brandon
Really, two years from now?
In two years, your driving record will affect your rates the most. If you collect moving violations and accidents over the next two years, you couldn't afford a 1975 Datsun B210. Stay away from law enforcement. My rates are actually lower for my C32 than my wife's new minivan.
Who knows what the value of a C32 will be in 2 years. If gas prices continue on the path we have seen lately, you might get paid to take one off the hands of the poor owner. Also, remember that the C32 will be an 8 year old car in 2 years. Finding one with mileage under 60K might be tough.
Why don't you check back with these questions in 2 years?

I'm not trying to bust your chops, I've just seen so much change in the value of the C32 in the last 2 years that it makes it nearly impossible to predict what things will look like in 2010.

I went from a 1991 300E to the C32 last year so my experience should be pretty similar to yours. Keep in mind that the good student discounts are worth a lot so keep your GPA up. Also having no accidents helps as well as no tickets, which keeps my insurance under $800/yr. Keep in mind they also factor in all the safety features that W203's have compared to our old W124's.
In two years they definitely will be in the 20k range or a lower mileage C32, heck mine with 40k miles bluebooks at only like $22k tops. I would assume that a 2002 C32 with like 50k miles in 2 years will be closer to the $15-16k range, maybe even lower with gas prices rising.

2. you can DEFINATELY find a 60k or les 03 or 04 for around 20k. I have seen 04 with 40k going for like 23-24k. Just a little talking will do the trick thats what I did and mine is an 04 with 43k.
Hope that helps.
Just a word of advice. Be sure about your chooice. Once you get it if you get it....keep it. Other wise youll screw yourself over and make sure your able to pay for it and have money for other fun as well becuase then you wont be happy. Having a nice car isnt everything.

We are already sitting on sub-$20k cars. Yes, mine had an original sticker price of over $56k.

Insurance rates doesn't just go by horsepower. They look at how often does the car get into accidents and file claims. They also look at how often is the car stole and the risk of having to pay out.
Mercedes is a pretty good gem when it comes to insurance rates. Too give you an idea my 04 civic with full coverage was $1600 a yr. My c32 with full coverage is $1100 a yr.
Mercedes drivers tend to be older and more mature drivers, so they tend to get into less accidents.
Civic drivers are usually younger and more inexperienced drivers, also the civic has been one of the top ten most stolen car for the last 10yrs.
You should just call your insurance company and get a quote.
2) if your going to finance any part of the car, you might want to look at getting it sooner then two years. Lot of banks will not finance cars older then 5-6yrs especially if its private party.
