Drag question

went to the drags tonight just to kill some time. My car was running mid 13's but my speed was only around 103mph? do you think it has to do with the new rims and tires i got. I seemed to hook up alot better though. I did a 13.49 at 102mph seems slow in mph for me. any ideas? temp was 88 degrees at race time.

Must be the elevation. I'm thinking you should be running high 12's with what you got.

My only idea for you is to take a road trip somewhere closer to sea level

Come to think of it, that will be the cheapest mod you can get for the bang for the buck! You should feel your car getting faster as you get lower.

I think it's probably the temp... too hot for you to lay down some good numbers. Heat seems to kill the F/I AMG cars, but it certainly doesn't help you N/A guys either.

How cool does your weather get? If you get days when the track temp is 50s-60s, you'll probably get MUCH better times/trap speeds. Also, what were your 60' times? They'll be a good indication of how well your new wheel/tire combo is hooking.

my times were in the area where i have been running but my trap speed was way down I just didnt get. it I found this killer tool on drag times with weather conditions it was like i was racing at 4000+feet

it is definitely elevation and temperature....not to mention that we have crappy 91 octane in az. i ran a 13.7 at 102 down here in tucson with my evosport pulley kit. everyone runs slower in arizona.

After i used the calculator on drag times it made me feel better. I ran a bunch of times and had a hard time getting over 104mph. one racer told me the wheel spin off the line with yield higher trap speeds but slower times. The car felt good in fact it felt real good almost no wheel spin with the new wheel and tire set up. elevation is 1400+ feet at speedworld but the calculator on drag times said it was like racing at 4000+ feet. We should get an AMG drag meet together this winter when most others are covered in snow.

yah. generally, if you have more wheel spin you will trap a little bit higher. the 91 octane definitely plays a big role. i plan on going to the track down here in tucson in the next two or three weeks and am going to test the different between 91 and 93 (gonna mix in some 100).

and yah, we should definitely get an AMG drag meet during the winter. temps in the 40s/50s at night would be great up at speedworld or whatnot.

I was on the Dyno at Dyno-Comp in Scottsdale I put down 331whp on their dyno-dynamics dyno, that was on AZ summer blend crappy 91 octane I was low on fuel when was on the dyno. we put 5 gallons of 95 octane race fuel. The next dyno run i picked up 8whp

nice....after adding the 95 octane, what was the estimated octane mixture in your car?

Does that work on NA engines? I know forced induction guys do that. Would that crack or risk cracking my Carbon fiber airbox?

it wouldn't help that much to put a bag of ice on your CF air box. if it were metal, it would retain a lot more heat causing the passing air to heat up more. I doubt it would hurt the CF box either from a bag of ice, it's not that drastic or rapid enough of temp change to make the molecules to do that thing they do when they crack, as you can tell I'm no scientist.

Thats a huge contributor my friend and at night ha.......have you weighed your car to see your weight? I say practice, practice, practice your launch...try this from Fongflex

"well, for the c32, this is what I do. I have first do a nice burnout, making sure there is smoke coming from my back tires.. Then I get up to the line, I have the car shifted into first gear and get my revs to about 1500rpm's. Once the light goes to the third yellow, I gradually but quickly let go of the brake as I gradually but quickly press the throttle. The key for me is to make sure I don't lose any traction, which means not being too aggressive on the throttle.

I've tried launching at different rpm's and anything higher causes wheelspin and anything lower is pretty much like a standing start."

He managed a 12.38@114 on a 50 degree day practicing this way SLIP.. https://mbworld.org/forums/showpost....&postcount=154

Also go thru this...
