decided to check out my air filters....i've been a bit negligent with them as i havent even checked them for three years. so, i decided to do it while my roommate installed his new exhaust on his LS1 camaro.

i'm not sure if you can tell from the pictures, but they were absolutely nasty. i used compressed air to get a lot of the crap out before i cleaned them. finished cleaning them with the K&N cleaning stuff, rinsed them out with water, and now waiting for them to dry so i can re-oil them.

out of curiosity, is it possible to speed up the drying process? perhaps, putting them in the oven on a low heat setting?

mine came in that purple/pink color but apparently its the oil that makes them that color. i will see what color they are after i re-oil them. they are currently drying outside

how long ago did you guys purchase your filters? maybe they have changed the design since. i ordered mine from an Autozone for my car (specifically made for the C32 obviously) back in fall of 2005.

So you bought them in '05 and haven't checked them in 3 years, so that means NEVER checked them?? Dude what the hell is wrong with you???? This is AZ, Home of the dust storms!! I clean mine 4-5 times a year, and I manage to tap out piles of brown dirt! No idea why, it should just be sand, lol

After monsoon season out here in AZ its real important to clean the filters. I like to do it when nothing is broke on my car and i need to take something apart. You will be amazed at how much dirt comes out of an air filter out here in AZ I would get in the habit of cleaning them every 3000 miles or so. I do it every two months Calimax is right on the money. AZ is a harsh place for a car even more so the air filters. Tons of dust, dirt, and dry, hot temps everything your air filter doesn't like. Keep it clean and moist(oiled) so the dust and dirt have something to stick to.

For sure! My worry for your motor is for as long as those filters have been operating without oil, the dust has just been going straight through to the motor. I'd be curious as to how much debris has built up with the blow by oil in the intake + S/C

lol.....probably a lot of debris had to accumulate. but to make a long story short because i dont want to explain it, i just had my supercharger replaced (under warranty) about three weeks ago. so hopefully whatever could have messed up my engine and accumulated in my car has been removed. i just recently had my oil changed too.

on another note, the car drives a lot more smoothly now. there might be a slight difference in power or throttle response, but idk for sure. good thing i finally cleaned them
