Why change Airfilters every 3k...
Ok guys/gals
I mentioned it before but here are pictures of my K&N filters just shy of 3k miles and same happens with my Green filters thus I presume it may happen to an OEM filter as well. I live roughly 40 miles west of Chicago in the western Suburbs where the stars are seen at night thus implying that pollution is not as bad as the city...enjoy

I don't and I live in the slightly more dusty desert. Used to clean my K&Ns every 30k or so.

not cleaning your filters for a while can have surprisingly detrimental effects power wise on your car among other things.
i left my uncleaned for three years. and i live in the dusty desert they call arizona, between tucson and scottsdale. just to give you an idea of how much of a difference having clean air filters can make:
i raced an LS1 camaro with a lid (intake) when i had my code3 pulley and intake. my K&N filters were dirty. he pulled about a 1/2 to full car per gear. then, the camaro got a catback exhaust (good for about 10 whp). i cleaned my filters. we raced again, and this time, we were dead even. i didnt add any mods while he did. dirty filters can actually make your car perform worse. not to mention that excess dust and dirt can go places we dont want them to when filters to get that dirty
moral of the story: dont wait as long as i did (3 years). you dont have to clean them every 3K miles (IMO too often, even for AZ people). but be smart about it, dont neglect cleaning them (like i did), take your residence and air quality into consideration.

I changed/cleaned my K/N's in the race car once a season, with no power gains/loss. I have NEVER cleaned them in my C32 with about 10,000 miles. Heck in my brothers car, want to be pro golfer, we cleaned them every 75,000. To each his own, just keep in mind that they actually clean the air BETTER after a little dirt. just food for thought.
See yeah my friend

Aftermarket filters dont filter as well as the paper oem filters until they get dirtly with the larger dust particles attaching to the filter.
I usually just clean mine every 20-30k but for me thats about a years worth of driving.
