C5 Corvette vs C32 AMG

A friend and I were driving home tonight after grabbing some appetizers for happy hour. Saw a guy in a C5 'vette. He had some decently large tires on back and a V1 that I could see through the window. Not sure if he was modded, but the larger than stock tires (stock i think are 275s) had me thinking. It had the new style AZ license plate, so if it was modded, probably only had an intake (lid), but i could be wrong. I wasn't planning on doing a run, but as I passed the guy, he gave it some gas. So I matched it and we ended up doing two runs.

First run, from about 30 mph to about 80, the C5 had a slight jump and was about a fender ahead and I pulled even by 80 mph.

Then, next run, I start from the top of second. He downshifts. Again, he gets a little jump, I catch him and have a care by about 125 and then let off.

As usual, all runs were in Mexico. Calculated the DA: about 1562. The lower elevation definitely favored the V8 N/A vette.

I wonder what face he had when he saw you along his side! It reminded me when I raced a C6 modded and I put a whipping on him after that he did not want to pull up next to me at the lights until a just waited for him.

haha.....he was definitely shocked....after the second run, he did a flyby and turned off.

wow! what mods did you have? you must have been quick beating a modded C6....was is the LS2 or LS3 C6? gotta love the feeling of having a four door luxury sedan beating a sports car. totally unexpecting and embarrassing (for the other driver of course)

yah i would think that is about right. I dont think the C5 would pull topend on the C55 as hard as it would on the C32 (stock) because you guys have the V8. C6 is definitely faster, with either the LS2 or LS3 motor (depending on year) trapping 113 to 117 (again, depending on which motor).

Was the C5 an automatic? I traded a C5 6 speed in for my C55 and that vette was a beast, with only slight mods (intake & exhaust). The C5 automatics and 6 speeds are geared differently plus the horsepower lost thru the automatic transmission might make a considerable difference. Then again, maybe the big tires slowed him down And BTW, I love my C55 and wouldn't trade back, even for a C6.

FYI for C5's - Automatics come stock with 2.73. The 6 speed and Z06 Vettes come with 3.42 gear sets.

i heard him downshift twice. unless it has the steptronic/tiptronic option like our MBs do, then it was a manual. I am not surprised to have beaten one. I have pulled on an 04 Terminator (Cobra) a car, who had beaten C5s quite regularly by buses. This leads me to believe that the C5 I raced wasnt even stock.

I had headers, cams,LSD,tuning & pulleys plus nos but never used it on the street only at the track. I raced a couple ls1,2,3 & one 7 and beat them pretty easy of course not the ls7 that was on spray hehe! Vettes are quick but not stock I had a C5 myself and the best I got before I went with a superchager 335rwhp with almost the same mods as the c55.

I have a 6 speed C6 and my buddy has a stock C5 6 speed. We race all the time. They are actually very close. I get him a little on each shift because I have a few more rpm's. Not much though. 50 HP difference is not much.

So how does your E63 compare to the C6 Vette?
