Add 1.5 Quarts?

I was under the car today and noticed a little bit of oil on the plastic below the tranny. It was not dripping but a few drips were hanging off the bottom of the trans. It is 100% oil, not transmission fluid.

No puddles or drips in the garage. If I had not been under the car messing with the exhaust I would have never known.

So I am 5000 miles since my last oil change. I change it every 5500. I use 15-50 synthetic.

So I just looked and it says add 1.5 quarts for Maximum. I never thought it leaked before?

What the heck is seeping oil slowly? Is this something to be concerned about? I am hoping this will not prevent me from taking a 1500 mile trip I have planned next week.

2005 C55 52K

Any ideas?

There are two drain plugs on the C55? check to see if they are both tight? Also AMG reccomend using 0-40 or 5-40 for oil on those engine. You might want to have the dealer or mechanic check out the leak if you cant locate the source. Good luck and keep us posted of the root cause.

also start the car and look at the o-ring on the filter and make sure its not leaking from the top

It does not appear to be the drain plugs or oil filter....

I'm guessing valve cover or main seals......I'm hoping it's not the main seals.....

Anyone have problems with either of those?

Nothing I can see.... It's definetly from the lower third of the motor. Just the lower area of the tranny has the oil.... It's not a leak more of a seep...

I'm going to wipe the whole thing down and see if by the morning I have some visible oil again. Should make it easier to locate...

Check the crank pulley seal it might be leaking and the air makes the oil reach the rear. Try to go to auto part store and get yourself some brake or electrical cleaner and run the engine and revisit.

Sounds like the leak is very minor. The 1.5Qts low might just be the oil was a 1/2Q low at the last oil change and it burned a 1/2 to full quart. Not a big deal.

Okay I went under there and really narrowed it down. It's not from the front at all, pulleys look great.. The valve covers look okay. I just had those done, 8k miles ago. This issue has got to be from the bottom back of the motor.

Maybe the seal between the motor and trans? It's not dirty in front of that area and only about 4 inches above it...

Thanks to everyone who has offered suggestions...

You may want to take a look at the oil cooler. On an M113, it’s common for the o-rings where the line feeds the cooler to leak with age. The oil cooler is in the upper front of the engine (next to the filter), but it is common for the oil to end up way in the back.

+1 More. I have seen it and fixed it now!!!

Thanks everyone, that was it. It was a little trail following the hoses all the way down to the rear of the motor.

Cheap parts and some easy labor and back on the road......
