Talking new guy here

Greetings, just picked up my '05 C55 with 25k miles on it last week. Happy to finally own my torque monster. Any Washington State members here?

Welcome to the board and congrats on your purchase.

I think most of the guys up your way are in Vancouver. Check out the C63 board--there's tons of them.

I believe so, considering the tasteful mods already done to it; which I was going to do anyway. Don't worry, his former car is in good hands.

I believe the only thing done engine wise are k&n filters, which I am eventually going to replace with stock ones, as per recommendation of my master tech buddy at a local Mercedes dealership.

Thanks for the welcomes!

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say everyone who is into performance mods for AMG's is using hi-flow filters. Keep the filters they are miles beyond better than stock OEM filters. You will literally loose about 10hp and 10tq If you take them out and go back to stock. Tell your master tech friend with all due respect he's wrong.

+1.....keep the filters.....and actually, you just check to see how clean they are if you haven't yet.

well, in terms of longevity vs performance. Apparently the oil from the filters can get sucked onto the sensor (forgot which one) which cost 800 dollars to replace...but I assume this is directly after you wash and oil them...dirty ones are ok I'll have to do a butt dyno of stock vs k&n's sometime. Hmm...time to do the res delete soon!

this is only if they are way to over oiled and are not given the proper time to dry before being placed back into your car. And it is the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor.

I say go with the stock filters :x

I dont' have the link, but there are more than enough tests showing that they let a lot more air through.... but they also let a lot more stuff through that you don't want going into your engine either...

Welcome aboard!
Another filter debate....

Peace of mind and reliable - OEM
Performance and proven HP/TQ gain - aftermarket

Welcome to the board. Nice car, I especially like the wood. Definately research the boards for performance mods. I had the K&N's on my C43 for years and never killed the MAF. I have had the Green filters on my C55 for more than 2 years and the MAF is fine. Just don't over oil when cleaning and keep the OE filters on hand to use while your K&N or Green filters dry for at least 24 hrs. You can also clean the MAF with electrical parts cleaner from Radio Shack. Don't let the mod bug bite you too hard.

Thanks a lot for the info! I was a little hesitant about keeping the filters, but they're doing well so far. I'm already getting used to the torque...maybe its time to look into a new airbox and/or ecu?
