CLK 63 AMG / SLK 55 Brake Upgrade - Almost there

Hi

Thanks to Harry and Drex, i have almost completed the CLK/SLK BBK upgrade on my C55. No hitches and everything went smoothly. Just got front pads to fit, road test and bed in pads and rotors. Here's a couple of pic's of where we have got to so far, and pleased that my wheels haven't caused problems with clearing the new caliper's. Will post more pic's later on.

Brakes finally done.

Here are some before and after pics.

After

The wheels are Mandrus Regenmeister 18 x 8.5 et32 and 18 x 9.5 et35 no problems with clearance for calipers, and all seems well after bedding in rotors and pads.

New calipers and rotors all round - CLK 63 AMG 6 pot on front, and SLK 55 AMG performance pack 4 pot on rear.

Total cost including fitting came to £3,200.00, not bad considering Brembo quoted me £4,750.00 for front and rear BBK.

They look good! How does the stopping power compare with your stock set-up? This is something I've always been interested in doing but will wait until my stock brakes have to be replaced. Do you by any chance have a parts list?

The car looks sharp with the bigger brakes.

Nice job.

Thanks, as they were only finished this morning i am taking it easy but my initial reaction is that they are far superior to stock. That's what i waited for, my dicsc and pads to wear.

Here are the parts numbers:

CLK 63 AMG (Front)

003-420-67-83 (caliper)
003-420-68-83 (caliper)
209-421-01-02 (rotors x 2)
005-420-39-20 (Brake Pads)
171-540-06-17 (sensor)

SLK 55 AMG 030 Performance Pack (Rear)

003-420-29-83 (caliper)
003-420-30-83 (caliper)
171-423-02-12 (Rotors x 2)

I fitted EBC Redstuff pads on the rear (DP31490C - 1490) so don't have part numbers for rear OEM pads.

That's about all you need apart from brake fluid, and as others have said the only adjustment that has to be done is to cut the back plate's on the rear so the caliper's can fit. Might also be an idea to fit SS brake lines mine were already done 4 months ago, and they do make a difference.

The brake shield? round metal plate (not sure of the technical term for it) that sits behind the disc (rotor). On the rear this needs to be cut to enable the new 4 pot caliper to fit. Easy job, my guy took about 5 mins to do both the rear's.

Oh, ok,I believe I know what you're refering to. I'm not sure of the technical term for it either. Shroud? Did the MB dealership do the install for you?

No way would i use a stealership, at £100 per hour labour. I used a friend who owns his own specialist repair centre (BMW, Audi and MB). Labour was £220.00. Plus they fitted a new rear amplifier for me as my car was only able to be opened by pointing the key at the drivers door. However, you will need to source all the parts through a dealership unless you know someone who can supply genuine MB parts.
